kind of dumb question about the dentist

I chipped one of my teeth today (about 5 teeth back from the front) anyway. I called my dentist today and have an appt tomorrow to get it fixed. I know my Vit D is very, very low - like in the upper teens. Can he prescribe the high dose (50,000 IU) of Vit. D or do I need to see my regular doctor? Unfortunately, my regular doctor doesn't seem very knowledgable about Vit D. I was on a very high OTC dose, but it only increased vit D level by 4 in 3 months
