F/U: Nurse made me cry

DH is calling the social worker (she's totally awesome and takes care of all the uglier conversations for us) to make sure Becky doesn't go near him again.

We had my favorite nurse today.  She didn't have him on a pump for his feeds but had adjusted the gravity feed (hey wow basic physics at work) so he wouldn't get it too fast. He did really well: only a few brady/desats that he self-recovered from very quickly.  When i asked about putting him to breast again she was very encouraging.  Apparently he had been rooting and really going to town on his binkie.  She helped me get him comfortable and he sucked!

He actually sucked!  i was so surprised because i wasn't expecting anything for at least another week.  He obviously didn't really know what he was doing but she helped remind him what to do and we had a great experience.

Today was so nice that i'm really bummed that we've decided to move him to the NICU closer to home.  I want to take Carol with me.  I have to keep reminding myself that either way we wouldn't get to keep her.

  • I know what you mean. We feel in love with our primary nurses and cried when our son left the hospital.

  • Oh I am so glad this was resolved, whew! I hope that other nurse gets in trouble. And I am sure you will have nurses you like at the other NICU just as much.

  • We had a difficult time with one nurse and never had her again.  I am sorry that you had such a bad time.  I cried the entire week before discharge becasue I was so sad about leaving my primaries.  We are still intouch on facebook though and that is nice.

  • My heart was aching today when I read your first post!  We are so fragile and sensitive right now and to have someone say those mean things to you is completely unacceptable.  I'm so glad that your DH is calling the social worker and you had a better time with Carol.  I hope that you will only hear kind, encouraging words from your RN's.  You're a great Mommy and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
