Too cold for baby in jogging stroller?

Hi ladies.  My LO is almost 6 months old and pedi gave the okay to start using the jogging stroller (BOB).  Of course, it's much cooler out now so I'm wondering if it will be too cold for LO.  Do you jog with your LO in cold weather?  What temps do you normally jog in?  Do you bundle them up and take them out?  I think my DS would love it, would be great to exercise and  fresh air for both of us, but I just worry about him getting too cold and pedi didn't give much direction there.  I stay home so I could take him out mid-day, just wondering how cold is too cold.

TIA!

Re: Too cold for baby in jogging stroller?

  • I am going through the same thing with my LO!  He loves to run with me, but it has just been cold and rainy so we have not been able to go.  I dont take him out if it is cold and rainy.  The last time I took him out it was probably under 50 degrees.  I put him in his winter coat and hat and mittens and stuff a warm blanket down around his feet (the stroller we have has a zip up enclosure so he is a little more protected and the blanket does not fall out), and then I put the hood part down over his face if it is too windy.  When I get the chance to take him out during the day, I go mid-day when it is a little warmer, but for the most part it is when I get home from work.  I think the fresh air is really good for him and he "talks" to me the entire ride, so I think he enjoys it.  I probably will stop taking him when it snows, but just because I dont like being in the slush and snow myself and it is a safety thing for me.

  • I plan on jogging with DS all winter, I started this January.  I just pile on the layers and DS is fine.

  • We just bundle DS up with his jacket, hat/mittens and blankets.  If it's windy, we pull the sun screen down over him.

You could also get the rain shield for the BOB and a snow suit for LO if it gets really cold  :)

  • i would suggest a "jj cole bundle me" or something similar. i recently heard "7 am enfant" is a great brand too (pricey, but supposedly keeps them super warm and grows with child).
  • I put my kids in a full-fleece suit (over their clothes) when jogging in cold weather (with fold-over mitts and booties).  Put on a hat and put the hood up.  A blanket if it's REALLY cold.

My route is also a loop around a lake near my house.  I do about 3 laps, so I check on them after each lap to make sure all is well--it's less than a half mile back to the house if I have to bail.

We took my DD out in very cold weather (-15F) in a ski trailer when she was less than a year and as long as she was bundled enough (clothes + sleeping bag + hot water bottle) she was fine.
