BM question

Has anyone had their milk come in heavily on one side and hardly at all on the other? I'm having to pump due to latching issues, and I pump everytime LO eats, and for the same amount of time of both sides. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can do to even things out??

I'd appreciate any advice! TIA

Re: BM question

  • i am a EPer and i had the same issue. one side i call super boob and the other slacker lol. my slow side is doing better but not as well as the other. i am not sure if it will ever do the same but the LC said it was normal for one side to do better than the other. what i did for a while was pump my weak side a little longer than the other side.

  • It's totally normal!  My "super boob" has been my left with both kids!  Sometimes I try to nurse a bit more on the right but usually I just alternate.
  • I exclusively pump and sometimes my right side puts out twice as much. The instructor in the mommy and me classes we go to said she's seen research that states that some women produce up to 80% more on one side. I think it is very normal, and I wouldn't worry if I were you. :)

  • Hey! :)

I have a 'good boob' too. (Also had latching issues at first as well...she wouldn't open wide enough. She's doing well with it now though.) Anyway, I don't know how even you can get them, but maybe taking a hot shower, massaging them? (Or a hot wet wash cloth before pumping and feeding?)

I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all though.

  • Hey OBH!

Thanks ladies, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a "super boob"    Wink

  • My right boob is a super producer, too.  I started feeding her on the left and the pumping the right, and it started to even things out a little more.  I think the baby's suck encourages the breast to produce  more because she can get more out of it than a pump can.
