getting rid of prescription meds?

I'm trying to clean out the medicine cabinet and realized I have quite a few old prescriptions in there (most from when I had DD).  I know that I am not supposed to flush them.  Can I just toss them in the trash?  How am I supposed to dispose of them?  Thanks

Re: getting rid of prescription meds?

  • I asked my Dr. about this and she said I could bring them in to her office and they would dispose of them properly.

  • I think you can also take them to a pharmacy where they will dispose of them also.

  • Don't just toss them as they are.

A lot of CVS pharmacies will take them and dispose of them.  You can also mix them in with something gross (coffee grounds, dirty diaper, etc) and throw them out that way.  The most important thing is preventing people from getting a hold of them if theyr'e digging through garbage.

Also, make sure the name and addresss and rx# are blacked out on the bottles before you toss them.
