Yesterday my DD was running a low grade fever (which I believe is due to teething). She cut six teeth this week. Yes, 6. When I got her ready to go to the dayhome, I put her thermometer in her bag. I know 100% that I did this because I took her temperature and then immediately after packed it along with a few other things into her bag.
When we got home last night, I thought she still felt warm so I went to her bag to get her thermometer and it wasn't there. I called her DCP to ask if I could drop by and pick it up since it was obviously left there.
It is an ear thermometer and cost over $100. I just find it a lot easier to use on a toddler than a rectal/underarm thermometer. Anyway, she never called back last night. I had to leave a message. I had a crappy night with DD and trying to take her temperature at 3 a.m. with a rectal thermometer was not fun.
I called again today and there was no answer. So she calls me back early this afternoon and says that she never saw it and that we didn't leave it there. So, I completely re-traced my steps , searched my entire house (which was immaculately cleaned the day before), checked the garage and my car to see if it could fall out (which would be very strange given the type of bag).
I politely asked her to keep an eye out for it and told her it was a white/green braun ear thermometer and that it was quite expensive. She said oh yeah, I have one like that.
So now what do I do? I've searched everything here and I feel like if I call her back and tell her it's not here, that I'm accusing her of losing it.
Given how accesible DD's bag is at daycare, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the kids were playing with it and it's stuck somewhere amongst the toys.
Would you bring it up on Monday morning and causally see if she found it? Or do I suck it up, spend another $100 on a new one, and never bring it out of the house?
Sorry this is so long.
Re: What do you do about things what went missing at daycare? - long
Missed m/c 10/25/10 @ 11.5 weeks
is this an in-home daycare or a center?
either way i'd look for it in the room... and then buy a new one.
i also would never send something worth $100 in my child's bag. Daycares should have their own thermometers to take temps if something is in question- there's no reason to bring your own- esp one that is that expensive and you know the kids could access.
Ditto - I never send anything to daycare that I'm not OK w/ it not coming back. So, far I've only lost a few bibs and socks, but eh. .. once stuff goes in there, you can't always be sure you'll get it back.
