Babywearing in the Winter

It's cold in Chicago. I need a coat, Hayden needs a coat. Coats aren't very babywearing-friendly. I'm thinking that the easiest way around this will be to drag the carrier inside the store & put her in it while inside the store. Other suggestions? I know I could obviously just put her in the cart but that's no fun! One day I won't be able to wear her anymore so I want to while I still can :-(

  • I don't know how to handle this either. I usually wear Reese at the grocery store simply because her carrier takes up too much space in the cart. I can get more groceries (and she is happier) if I put her in a sling or the moby. But, with it getting cold out, I don't want to take her out of her carrier to take her inside. I'm hoping someone can share a genius solution to this problem.

  • I've heard of moms wearing a maternity coat so they could wear their baby on the front and wrap the coat around both of them.

That's how Timm rolls.  I think it is hilarious.  But once we get inside stores, he takes her out.  Unless the store is super cold.

  • I put Phoebe in her carrier in the car and I either put my coat around her (like Tim does) or I wrap her blanket all the way around her to even cover up her head until we get inside.  I look kinda ridiculus but it works.

  • I used to wear Nathan and then wrap the blanket around him until we got where we were going.
  • ashley, my dh does the same and gets so many stares when we're out! i'm surprised seeing that it's nyc and most people don't look twice when seeing something strange.

i cover nia with a polar fleece too. the challenge i've been having lately is that she's almost 3 months and the moby doesn't recommend the inward facing wrap style until 3 mos and me being type A i'm sticking to that. it's made it a challenge wrapping her in her polar fleece snow suit from old navy. as a result i've carried her in my arms the few places i've taken her out the past couple weeks that it's been cold enough for the snowsuit. next week i'm officially changing the wrap style since she'll be 3 mos and will fit better snowsuit and all.
