It's horrendous. His skin is sloughing off and it is red and raw. They started antibiotics at 1 a.m. it almost 24 hours later and the skin is starting to look better. His blood pressure dropped and he was anemic. His oxygen levels kept dropping as well and where he has been breathing at 30% they had to bump him to 60%. They put a picc line back in him and tried for an arterial line but it clotted. They have also given him morphine earlier and he's now on phentonyl.
The worst part of the day was when I was assisting the nurse with his care and he summoned the energy to look at me like, "help me mommy I feel bad." It broke my heart! Although he was born at 24 weeks and is now 28 weeks his eyes are often open and he is looking around trying to look at you. So it was hard for me to see him only open them that one time and just know he was looking for me to help him and I just couldn't make it better. I have never felt so bad in my life!
His skin is starting to look better and he is stable now and God willing will rest tonight and have a better day tomorrow. Blood cultures won't be back for 48 hours. My little man is a fighter!
