Potty Training

Be honest...how many accidents on day 1 of 3 day PT?

DD has been really good about going pee in the potty for about a month, but was still in either cloth diapers or pull ups, so would go in those in between sessions of sitting on the potty.  I really should have started this a lot earlier :(  Anyway, decided to try the 3 day training this weekend and day 1 has been awful so far - 4 accidents already and she's only been up for 2.5 hours.  She did pee when she first got up and peed one other time when I told her it was time to pee on the potty, but otherwise she just stands in the kitchen and pees on the floor.  I take her to the bathroom at the first indication, but she's usually "done" by the time we walk even the 15 feet to the bathroom.  I still make her sit on the potty for a few minutes, then she takes her wet underwear to the laundry, cleans up the kitchen floor, and washes her hands.  Hopefully the interruption of her play will be enough motivation, but I'm beginning to have some doubts.  Please tell me it gets better and that this is worth it!

  • I think on day 1 we had 12 accidents. Day 2 we had about 8. Day 3 we had about 3. Day 4 we went a little backwards and it was about 6 or so. Gradually getting better. Day 11 was our first dry day!!! Has been dry ever since. We are still working on poop but for pee we are good to go!

  • My DD is 2.5, so older than yours.  We started Wed after her nap and it was a disaster, she didn't go on the potty at all so I decided to scrap it.  But Thurs morning she asked to wear underwear when she was getting dressed, so I let her.  She had one pee accident that day (pooping is another story).
  • Thanks for the encouragement!  She had 7 pee accidents today and pooped on the potty twice (first day EVER).  I'm so proud of her!!!  I just put her to bed in underwear (and like 5 waterproof layers, ha ha), so fingers crossed.  Nap was just a little spot on her bed, so I'm just going to stick with it and hope she does ok in daycare on Monday.  I'll probably send some waterproof covers to daycare since it's really not fair to have them deal with accidents with all the other kids.
  • That's funny. DS had 4 accidents already this morning (our first day), and I am considering it a HUGE success, rather than considering it awful. He has never peed or pooped on the potty or potty-trained in any way before day, so I think he's doing great! He has had 4 accidents (in a 4 hour period) and 2 (and a half) successes!

My only suggestion is moving the potty closer to where you are. There is no way we could keep it in the bathroom on Day 1. We could never get him there in time. We are keeping it out in the living room/play room with us, so that it is close-by when he has to go.
