I'm in the hospital because Baby A is looking small and his/her umbilical ultrasound showed elevated restriction today. I am 32 weeks today and there is talk about me delivering Monday. I've had my first steroid shot and will get my second one later tonight.
What were your experiences? I'm trying to figure out what I have in my future...
Thanks in advance!
Re: Tell Me About Your 32 Weekers
every situation is different obviously, and my DD was born because of Rh disease. She weighed 5 lbs 3 oz, but about a pound of that was fluids from all the edema in her organs from the blood disease, so really she was about 4 lbs which they said was big for her gestation so it may be altogether different, but...
That's great that you were able to get the steroids shot. I was too, and despite her being very sick, she was breathing on her own and cried at birth.
She had to undergo a series of procedures because of her condition but still managed to come home on day 15, even though they predicted a 4-8 week stay.
Her biggest reason for being able to come home early was that she was a great eater. There are a series of things that have to be checked off before they go home, and one main thing is that they have to be gaining weight. They told me this is what holds up the show for a lot of babies, because they usually don't even have a suck/swallow reflex til 35 weeks or so typically.
anyway, i just wanted to give you our success story. she was born at 32 weeks 3 days and is now 4 weeks adjusted and over 10 lbs. Don't get down if your story doesn't go quite as well but I wanted to give you something to be optomistic about. the NICU is great and your baby will be soooo well taken care of. it's hard not to worry but they will truly be in great hands.
My son was born 31w5d due to my water suddenly breaking. Only had time for one steriod shot and delivered 5 hours after it. My son never needed any respiratory assistance, by some miracle. He was 3lbs 13ozs. He spent a long 7 weeks in the NICU learning how to eat...this was quite longer than average for this being his only issue.
Good luck!!

My DS was born at 31 w 5 d at 2 pounds 13 ounces due to pre-e. I was able to get both shots before delivery. He was on the CPAP for a day and a half to help expand his lungs. After that his only issue was learning to eat and putting on weight. He did have a NEC scare but thankfully it turned out to be nothing and we were released after 42 long days.
What hospital are you delivering at? I delivered at Roosevelt so if you have any questions about my experience feel free to ask.
