Normally, I just eye roll DH's enthusiasm for hunting ... and occassionally get dragged along, but today I am hating it.
We have been wanting to TTC for months already, but had to wait for AF to return. She did, with a vengence I might add, several weeks ago, and both of us were pumped to TTC.
Until today that is, when he realized that if we were to get pregnant right now, it would interfere with next season's big hunt he always goes on. So now we are waiting for a couple more months.
I know that a couple more months really mean nothing in the long run, but man was I excited. I'll admit it, I am hoping that I ovulated earlier than expected and that perhaps a BFP is coming anyways.
Re: I Hate Hunting Season
It sounds like you are married to DH's boss. Not only does he hunt like crazy, he told us when we could and couldn't get pregnant based on when he wanted to take vacation (so he could go hunting).
I hope you get a BFP too!
Just curious to when and how long his big hunt is?? My DH is a hunter too. This time of year drives me crazy sometimes. Anyway- Is there no convincing him otherwise?
It is 10 days at the beginning of September. The real kicker is that it is in a really remote area - no cell service at all, and 3 hours to the nearest town. Sooo, he doesn't want to leave me alone with a 2 year old and brand new baby ... and neither of us want him going within a few weeks of a due date. So pretty much August and September are out completely.
<sigh> I don't think there will be convincing. DS was already a September baby
And I did convince him that October would be okay ... I think that will probably be the limit though!
::sings:: Come here and cry on my shoulder.
I can relate. My H is currently OOT, hunting. I'm glad that he has a hobby he enjoys and it's a great way for him to spend time with his dad and cousins, but I miss him.
GL with planning around the big hunt
. What kind of hunting does your H do?
Ooh, someone to commiserate with
I feel the same way about DH - great that he is passionate about something. Sad every fall when it takes him away ... a lot.
I think the best question to ask is what doesn't he hunt? The "big" hunt is for a mountain goat and deer, but he also hunts moose, elk, grouse, and bear. I try to steer him towards tastier animals, as we eat anything he gets ... so at least that way I have something positive out of the whole thing!
And your DH?
Same here. I did not come from a hunting family, so it has certainly been a learning experience.
He hunts during archery and rifle season and gets deer and geese. He would love to do big game hunting sometime and would probably be very jealous of your husband
.
I had to laugh - I also came from a non-hunting family ... makes it interesting the first couple times you cook it, doesn't it?
Absolutely. It took me awhile to get the hang of it. The slow cooker is my best friend when preparing game meat.
We're in the same boat, except DH's big season is the beginning of October. We TTC in September with no luck, then he was ON his trip in October so no go. I'm REALLY hoping this is the month (or maybe next month), or else we might have to delay it a while and then we're going to be looking at another Christmas baby!
My only saving grace is that DH is the guide so at least he gets paid to be gone for 10 days each fall and half of the weekends in spring and summer.
lol! My BIL told my sister she wasn't allowed to go into labor on Sept 1st because that's the opening day of dove season.
I love hunting and I'm disappointed that I haven't really gotten to go much in the past couple years - they don't exactly recommend that pregnant women be shooting firearms!
So much better - and I know what you mean about a Christmas baby. We haven't had one yet ... but I am beginning to think the next one might be
TG, I now christen you an official member of the Hunting Widows Club. I'm sure hisaak won't mind
.
I have grown to love venison too! Goose, not so much.
