Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Disney World

DH and I are thinking about going to Disney World this December, but DH is worried that it's going to be boring since we can't take Curly on most of the rides.

What do you think?  Is it worth going to Disney World with a 1 year old?  Or should we just find a beach somewhere and chill out for a couple days and wait to to Disney for another year or two?

Re: Disney World

  • I LOVE Disney! We only live about 3 hours away, so I've always gone often. We took DD last December at 5 months and it was still fun...beautiful weather, so it was nice just being outside and walking around. In Nov/Dec, it's all decorated for Xmas, which is really nice and DD got a kick out of all the lights. We went on few rides with her...Small World, Peter Pan, Snow White, etc. If you go to Epcot, it's more of a waking around kind of place than rides anyway. We're actually going next weekend and DD is 16 months.

  • We go on rides! He can go on dumbo, aladin, the carosel, peter pan, Winnie the pooh,etc... but bigger more fun rides like tower of terror no. They have a parent swap option where both wait in line and take turns. Or you can hire a sitter through kidsniteout.com(we've gone through them multiple times and they are very popular with Disney) for a day for you two to hit some bigger adult rides. We go to Disney almost every other weekend and it's very baby friendly and fun. Have a good time if you decide to go!
  • We had a great time when we went last month! Kiddo loved the Animal Kingdom. You can go on rides - they have a line swap pass. One of you stays with the kid - the other rides then you switch without waiting in line. Plus you can go on some of the rides with kiddo (boat rides etc).

  • We went when DD was 10 1/2 months and we all had a great time.  She could go on any ride without a height restriction.  I would check their website and look at the rides, there are a bunch.  She also loved the characters and parades.
  • If I were you I would wait until LO is a bit bigger. We went with DS a couple months ago, and honestly it was more of a pain then fun. Sure, the characters and the sights are always fun. But there really is nothing for LO's to do there. And unless you bring family or friends, DH and you can't do anything either. Just a lot of walking and looking is about it.
  • Disney with a 1 year old sounds like torture, IMO.  It's a lot of money to spend on this type of trip.  Your 1 year old wont remember it, he wont be able to participate in most of it, you'll all have to wait in long lines and then take turns actually going on rides (alone). That just doesnt sound like fun.

My kids are (almost) 3 and 5 and we think we'd all enjoy it next year. Even now I think they're a bit too young for all of us to have a good time.

  • If you are going to be in town and have a chance to go I would !!!

We live 1 hour and took DD there in sept when DH family was in town we had fun. There are many rides that your LO can go on and you can see the micky minni ect and get pictures with them. also the holiday season is one of the best times to go the decor is great. We are going the 1st week in Dec when my sister andkids are in town!! Also you LO can go on some on the adult rides that are not to fast DDloved them she just sat on one of our laps.

  • We are going in December but more for DD's benefit than DS's.  Like a PP said, the baby can ride any ride without a height restriction.  At Magic Kingdom, babies can ride all but 3 or 4 rides.  I think it's up to you whether you go now or wait.  I'm sure you'll have fun either way.

  • I would absolutely go! I love WDW!!!! LO can go on anything that doesn't have a height limit & I'm sure he'd love all the characters and everything going on. There's so much to do there. LOs under 3 are free, BTW. Have fun!
