Which smartphone should I get?

DH and I are going to upgrade to smartphones. We currently have a pretty good deal with Sprint and could upgrade to the Blackberry curve for $50. Or we could spend a lot more ($150 or so) and spring for droids. OR, we could get free 3G iphones from my BIL and SIL who just upgraded to new iphones, but that would mean switching to AT&T and spending about $20 more a month compared to sprint (and sprint is unlimited data, while AT&T would be for the 200mb plan).

Any advice? Anyone have a 3G iphone? I've heard about problems with those phones since the 4G ones came out.

Re: Which smartphone should I get?

  • I hate ATT bc they don't work in my house.

I LOVE my Droid 2.  It has seriously changed my life.  It's like a mini laptop wherever I go.  The biggest thing I love about it is the slide out keyboard.  I have pudgy fingers IMO so I hate phones that are ONLY touchscreen.  I don't know if mine is 3g or 4g but I do know it sure is fast!

My vote is for Droid.  =)

  • H got the Samsung Vibrant and it's pretty awesome - same size as an iphone, light, great screen and comes with swype which makes a keyboard unnecessary. I got the G2 (which is an HTC Hero?) - it's great too and I got it for the keyboard, but i almost always use swype - rarely pull the keyboard out anymore, and it;s way heavier.
  • Of course I have to be devils advocate and say I hate the swipe function because my fingers are too pudgy for it to work the way I want.

  • I have the Blackberry Curve (Sprint) and love it.  I don't have anything to compare it to though, as I haven't used an iphone or droid, etc.

I think you just haven't played with it long enough - it sucked the first few times i tried, but now I barely have to come close to the letters for it to work. I think I read somewhere that it adapts to you, so the more you use it the easier it is, but if you tried to use my phone, it wouldn't work.

I have heard that.  I guess I'm just a keyboard person.

  • DH and I both have 3G iphones.  There was a problem when they came out with a software upgrade for the 3G to make it more like 4G software.  But they came out with a fix and they work fine now.  The initial upgrade made our phones freaking slow and they'd freeze all the time.  We both love our iphones.

  • Thank for the input! We looked at phone today and found out Sprint is coming out with a new entry-level Droid tomorrow, so I think I am going to get either that or the Blackberry Curve.
