I am not trying to flame, just curious what your answer to Toledo's question:
"It doesn't matter if you believe in it or not - it doesn't change facts.
But it does beg the question: if your LO is gay, will you blame yourself for it? Do you think you'll be able to pinpoint exactly what you did to turn your kid gay?
Also: can you remember what turned you straight? What did your parents do right? lol."
Re: happymom2m
I am not trying to flame, just curious what your answer to Toledo's question. I'm sorry, but somehow I doubt this.
I've never really thought about what I would do, to be honest. It's not something that has even crossed our mind. It has never been apart of mine and DH's conversation. I know I would love her because she is mine; my baby girl that I birthed and adore for so long. I imagine her dad and I would bathe the issue in prayer. If God wanted us to accept it, then He would give us a peace about it. We would never be ok with it (gasps heard all over the bump nation) and I don't have to be. You think my parents were ok with the rebellious behavior I showed in high school? Of course not.
The other questions are just stupid, ridiculous (being born gay is "a fact"???? Where is this documented as such?) and sarcastic and I choose not to entertain them. Sorry....
::butting in::
You think someone chooses to be gay to rebel against their parents?
I can't take anyone who thinks being gay is a choice seriously.
::shakes head::
Being gay is "rebellious behavior"? Good luck showing love and support to a gay daughter if you think she's doing it just to piss you off.
It was a comparison!! Ever heard of that??? It has nothing to do with being gay to be rebellious. DUH.
Here, let me break it down a little bit more for some people. My parents didn't agree with me being rebellious - they still loved me - but didn't support it/like it, etc, etc.
Sheesh...........*eye rolling*
It implies that both behaviors are a willful choice.
DUH.
Then there really shouldn't have been a confusion on your part.
LOL. My only confusion right now is why I'm continuing to talk to you.
Although I do love when a post makes me realize how lucky my kids are.Honestly, I am not one to flame, unless you really suck.
You have your opinion, but you may change it if your child grows up and starts to show the signs of a different sexual identity than yours. I have a good friend who has a 9 year old DD who loves to wear boys clothes, and has never been interested in "girl" things. She is very young and you never can tell, but if she is gay, then it is definitely who she is and she was born that way.
Yes, I have heard of mythology. Your point?
So you're telling me that every gay person I've talked to lied to me? ::gasp::
I have A LOT of gay friends and all of them have told me if they could choose, they would choose to be straight because it's an "easier" life.
Man, I must have shiitty choices in friends to have that many who lied to me.
When did you make the choice to become straight? At what age did you come to that crossroads? Just curious.
Wow. That was a really intelligent response. Thank you.
Seriously. WTF, those gays, they're ALL liars. On top of choosing to be gay, they lie too?
Whoa- where did this come from?
My LO is really lucky, too. Awwwww....
I can. It's called the Bible. I would love to give scripture, but since it's "mythology", what's the point? (bless her little heart)
It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that people choose to be gay.
I mean, seriously, quote me some scripture on that one.
You can't. It doesn't exist.
Condescending much?
I'm going to be honest, I don't believe that people are born "gay". I believe that people are born biologically set up to be attracted to the opposite geneder. But Biology only goes so far before psychology kicks in. Most (most is the key word here not ALL) of the idividuals that I have had the pleasure of befreinding in my life that are gay have had something traumatic, or negative, damaging in some way happen to them regarding the opposite gender.
I do not believe it is a choice though.
That being said I do have a very good friend who is Bi, and nothing really happened that would explain it psychologically.
If my daughter ended up being gay, I would assume that something happened to her, and if not I would be confused, but oh well. I would love her no matter what, because we all deal with things the best we know how. In all I think everyone should feel safe and loved, regardless of your orientation.
Sooooo.... do you have any evidence to back that claim up? Aside from the anecdotal evidence that you gave that actually goes against your assertion?
LOL. The Bible is not a defense of anything. It's just a book.
I'm not going to type the awful things that have happened to my family and friends to satisfy you, just because you don't have the same opinion as me.
My point was, what does it matter how one thinks an explanation for being gay comes about? Isn't it just important that others are accepting and non judgemental?
What does it matter? Really?
If your daughter comes to you and tells you she's gay, you're going to assume she had a traumatic childhood event. That doesn't seem the wee bit fcuked up to you? I can't imagine how that would make her feel. "I love you anyway, honey, but something clearly warped you to make you the way you are." Ew.
Read all of what I typed, I said that if something hadn't happened traumatic (I NEVER said warped, I dont' think there is anything wrong with being gay) then yes, I would be confused, but oh well. Parents are confused by their children's lives all the time, and it doesn't mean they love them any less.
1 - you are saying that being gay is a temptation one gave into? So if your DD/DS is gay she/he will be cursed? You are a moron!
You should really read/watch "Prayers for Bobby". It's about a religious closed minded mother who had a gay son and turned against him and he committed suicide. She then realized she should have loved him and accepted him for the way he is.
I really hope your DD isn't gay because it would be awful to have you as a mom. I never say something like this to people, but on this subject I truly feel sorry for every gay child that has closed minded parents where they can't live the life they want because their parents won't accept them.
I wouldn't have a problem with her citing specific verses in the Bible that defended her point, since I think that people are entitled to their religious beliefs and if the Bible actually said what she is saying it says, she would have a perfectly good reason to believe what she does.
But saying that she believes something that the Bible doesn't say, but using the Bible as her justification? That puts Christians everywhere to shame.
I think your sexual orientation is based purely on science, that being said, I believe that gays do not choose to be gay, they are simply that way based on their genetic makeup.
I did a little research and here's what I found:
Christian fundamentalists believe that individuals are either straight or gay. A study from the 1950's determines that most individuals are not exclusively heterosexual or homosexual. The Twin Studies (by Simon Levay) finds that identical twins are more likely to share sexual orientation that those with different genetic makeup (fraternal twins). Also, the Gay Brain study in 1999 found that a certain part of the hypothalamus was smaller in the gay man than the heterosexual man. It was concluded as 'proof' that one's sexual orientation was not chosen, but it is not known yet whether they are present at birth or over time. Either way, is is difficult to deny that being gay is a complete choice of the individual with the studies shown.
In happymom2m's defense, (not that I believe in the bible), but there are scripture in the bible that warn against homosexuality: 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. But nothing that actually says anything about someone being born with it or not. This is probably more referenced in the beginning where 'God created man in his own image' (aka man is not gay).
Eh. Either way, I would love my kid no matter what he turned out to be.
My problem with saying "God created man in his own image" means "Man is not gay" is that that involves a fair amount of interpretation and extrapolation (and imposition of personal bias) to get there. If you really believe that the Bible is meant to be interpreted literally and therefore the (few and far between) verses stating that homosexual sex acts are a sin are to be taken to mean that God frowns upon homosexual sex, then you don't get to then take other verses and make them say what you need them to for your convenience.
It's either literal or it isn't.
For the record, there is nothing in the Bible specifically prohibiting being gay, only about having sex with someone of the same gender.
Yes! That's the movie I was talking about. It's so sad that there are people like that out in the world.
I saw a show about that study, and have been half heartedly trying to find a link. Thank you, and will you post a link to the study?
And just how do we know that this god isn't gay?
Lol, that's exactly what I thought.
And thank you for proving what a good Christian you are. WWJD? Not call people retards that's for sure.
Well, if Dumbledore is, all bets are off!
