If baby's room is cold....

What do you do to make sure LO is warm enough but not over heated?  We can keep our heat set around 71 and the front of the house is comfortable (we have a ranch design), DS's room is fine but our room and the baby's room are always cool.  Just bad circulation in the house I guess.  We like our room cool but I worry about DS.  I have winter footed pj's and a onesie and then he is usually swaddled but I always wonder if he's warm enough.  And what about his head?  Should I be putting a hat on at night?

  • We keep our heat set at 71 as well.... this morning I changed it to 72 to see if I thought that would help (we have the same issues).  I was just thinking about posting a similar questions.  Wondering what everyone is putting LO in at night to sleep in....

  • We have this issue as well. We have fleece sleeper we put him in and also have a fleece sleep sack we use if he's not wearing one of the sleepers and then wrap him in a blanket. I check how he is in the middle of the night when he gets up to feed and he's usually nice and warm but not overheated.

  • With DD#1 - (10 years ago) - before the swaddle me and such, we had furnace issues and the house would get quite cold at night.  We put DD to sleep in a soft light snowsuit each night.  We had two different ones.  She slept wonderfully - all snuggled and cozy.

  • He sounds like he is warm enough. He would fuss if he were cold. It is better to be too cool than too warm since they run warmer anyway. I think the recommended temp is 66-72. I always worry about this, too. If you want to make him a bit warmer, put socks on under his PJs because we lose a lot of heat out of our feet. And yes heads, too, but hats always fall off and/or annoy my kids!

  • we have the same issue only our lo wont stay swaddled he is all over in the crib. the dr recommended no blankets because of how much he moves,  so we have resorted to a onesie, cotton pj set and then a fleece sleeper over.  it seems to be working so far but still a bit concerned about when it gets really cold.
