OB/Hospital rec in central Houston?

Hi Ladies!  I've recently moved to Houston.  I live close to Rice, we're loving it here so far!  I'm pregnant again-- hurrah!  It's early, I'm just 4w5d, and it's time for me to call the OB.

Of course, my awesome OB in Indiana didn't follow me to Houston (bummer!) so I need to find a new one.  I don't even know where to begin.  Do any of you know about hospitals/OBs in central Houston, near Rice & the medical center?  Do you have one you love?  One to stay away from?

I'm looking for a natural-friendly practice, though I don't know if I'll go natural.  I tried with Ian, but after 14 hours got the epi, and I'm not sure I'll try again.  I'd still kiss my anesthesiologist if I saw him, 3 years later :)  But I am onboard with trying to stay intervention free, being breastfeeding friendly, rooming-in, etc.

 I appreciate your help!!!

  • A lot of the girls here see various Drs in the Women's Specialists of Houston practice at Texas Childrens.  You will hear a lot of recs for Dr. Bobo and the others.  The whole practice is fairly natural-friendly.  I was a patient with the Midwives there, and they were fabulously supportive of my natural goals.  Unfortunately DS didn't get the memo, so Dr. Dryden did my c-section.  She was beyond fabulous.   This group delivers at Methodist or St. Lukes.  Tx Children's is building a new maternity center, but I don't know when it is supposed to open.  Good luck and welcome.

  • I see Ivonne Smith at OGA on Fannin and I love her. I switched about 8 weeks in to my 1st pregnancy and have never looked back. She was very supportive of my desire to go natural and let me labor for 17 hours before we ultimately decided together that a C-section was inevitable. She is also one of the few OBs in Houston who will do VBACs and I think this all goes to her desire to see her patients have the experience they want. Her bedside manner is a little matter-of-fact and not everyone would love that, but she is smart as a whip and a very skilled doctor.

    And welcome to Houston!

  • Dr. delCastillo.  He delivers at Memorial Hermann and Park Plaza.  His office is in Park Plaza, but he delivered me at Hermann.  I would absolutely recommend Hermann and my ob!!!  I am a NICU nurse, and he came very highly recommended from the NICU nurses I work with, who work with him frequently.
  • I use the Baylor Clinic, Dr. Nina Ali all physicians are affiliated with St Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Tx Children's ....
