I know you are going to get them regardless of anything you do, but anyone found anything that helps reduce the look and/or how many you get?
I right now have never had one, so I hope that means I might be one of the lucky ones that doesn't get them *knocks on wood*
Any suggestions?
Re: Anyone using cream to help prevent stretch marks?
with DS, I did them sporadically, and THOUGHT I was in the home-stretch, but like 4 wks prior to delivery they popped up - blam blam blam!!! Like, a lot. Just in the lower abdomen though.
So, that said, I already have em, I am not doing anything this time around. What's the point, when they are already there??!
Stretch marks are one of my biggest concerns about the pregnancy (as far as myself!) so I did some research.
I ended up buying a couple bottles of a lotion made by Novartis in Spain called Anti-Estrias which has Gotu Kola extract which was proven in a clinical trial to help. I, too, am sceptical but I figured it couldn't hurt!
I also know the company Belli has Gotu Kola in their stretchmark products too, so you could try that...
Do you mind telling where you did get them?
With DS I didn't get any, and my mom got them, so I'm sticking with my same regimen this time around.
I use the Vaseline Cocoa Butter lotion in the morning after my shower, and Burt's Bees Mama Bee at night. And I shower with Dove Nutrium extra moisture body wash.
Be sure to drink lots and lots of water! I have heard staying hydrated really helps. And eat well.
I put lotion on my boobs and belly. I ended up getting stretch marks on the outsides of my thighs (saddle bags?) and my upper butt or lower waist, just in the back. Strange places, I thought...
Thanks! I have some stretch marks on my thighs from adolescence so I better start focusing there, too.
My mom didn't get any with me, and I didn't get any with twins. I think it's genetic.
I use cream/lotion to help with the itchiness when I need it.
This! Except I got them on my thighs too.
Me too, so I think I'm likely to get them. I did a lot of google research and read that the Palmers works about as good as the more expensive brands so I'm going to use it. You can use a lot of it because it is much cheaper where as people try to conserve the expensive brands and miss spots or don't apply enough. I also read, that itching can cause stretch marks to be worse, so I figure that moisturizing twice a day will help with the itchiness and it won't make the stretch marks any worse than using nothing.
I am using the same thing! This is my first time around. Here's hoping it works!!!
I'm using Palmer's Cocoa Butter specifically for stretch marks. This particular one you can use as an all over body lotion.
Here's hoping it works.
drinking lots of water ("moisturizing from the inside") is key, dehydrated skin is more likely to be damaged by anything.
I used pure, unscented shea butter. It doesn't smell that great, but i'm allergic to perfumes and petro chemical lotions like Vaseline.
Plus if you ever watch the documentary "the disappearing male" you'll steer clear of most chemical lotions after that. Scary stuff.
ETA: the only stretch mark I got was on my boob after DD was born...holy engorgement!
