Do you have something picked out or will you let your parents decide? I was thinking to just let it go and see where LO takes it. My ILs already have 2 grandchildren, so their names will probably stick from them, but my parents don't have any.
DH calls both his grandparents Grandma and Grandpa, which is what I call my moms parents, but then on my dads side we call my grandparents Nonna and Nonno (Italian). I would like to keep that tradition going with my parents, and his parents will probably be Grandma and Grandpa, just because it seems to work for our families. I guess we'll see what our nephew does when he starts talking too.
My mom picked out Mimi when my nephew was born and it stuck - my dad picked out Grampy but my nephew couldn't say it so he changed to Papi. So they will be Mimi and Papi, but DH's parents don't have grandchildren so it is up in the air! My eldest cousin named my grandparents Bagel and Boppy - we have no idea why! But it stuck and to this day we still call them Bagel and Boppy
Our kids have only met MIL once for my son and twice for my daughter (she lives in Quebec and we dont keep in contact much) My daughter met FIL once and my son never has (he lives in Ontario) we hardly EVER hear from him.
They call them Grandma Frances and grandpa Patrick.

I really didn't care . . .whatever they want to be called. My MIL wants Nana too, she is all worried that my mom might want to be called that but I said whatever everyone wants.
I think of my ILs as being Grandma and Grandpa. I call my mom and dad Mama and Papa (I know, I know), so we may keep that, or we may do Nana and Pop Pop- something with a similar sound. On my dad's side of the family, grandparents have gone by Nana and Opapa.
My hub is 100% portuguese so his parents will be vovo and vuvu. My mom will be nana, i'm not sure about my dad. I am such a daddys girl and i feel like the names make him seem old. Probably nana and papa since it is easy.
My dad will be "Grandpa Farmer" his nickname for as long as I can remember is "Farmer" and our little cousin has always called him "uncle Farmer" (she's 4 now) so Grandpa Farmer is fitting. As for MIL/FIL, I really don't know/care haha, is that bad of me? I am a bit jealous that LO will get to know MIL and not my mom, (who passed away 4 years ago). I know I need to get over it, but for now, LO will get to decide what to call them.
My mom will definitely be Mommaw (which is what grandma is always called on my mom's side!). My stepdad hasn't decided yet. My dad will most likely be grandpa. My stepmom doesn't really like DH and me so she probably won't want a name! (which is a story for another time)
DH's parents will go by grandma and grandpa which is what DH's brother's kids call them.
H and I live about 10 minutes from both sets of parents, so our kid will really have to learn how to distinguish whose house we're going to if we say we're going to Grandma and Grandpa's.
My nephew calls my IL's "Grandma FirstName" and "Grandpa FirstName," so I imagine that's what my kid will call them. I don't think my parents have a preference either, but I jokingly told H that I will encourage our kid to call them "Grandma and Grandpa Awesome." (Because my parents truly rock, and his parents totally do not. And he agrees.)
Of course, I can't teach my child that my IL's are BSC, so I'll have to really watch what I call them around him/her.

FIL wants to be pop pop, and MIL is still not sure what she want's to be called. My parents don't know yet, but I'll let them decide. My grandma (on my mother's side) is mom mom, so I don't know what we'll call my mom.
My parents already have one grandchild, so it will be Mimi and Granddad for them. For my IL's, it'll be the first grandchild. I think we're aiming for the traditional Grandma and Grandpa, but if something else sticks, then so be it.

My Sweetheart's parents' are already calling themselves Nanna and Papa (twhich their ther grandchildren call them), so that will stick. My father and stepmther probably want to be called Oma and Opa but I really dislike that, so will encourage Grandma and Grandpa. My mother and stepdad live far away and we probably won't see them much, so I don't know. Ugh. Probably doesn't ultimatel;y matter what I want since both sets of my parents tend to be steamroller-y to get their own way.
Our IL's will probably be Abuelito & Abuelita (spanish). My mom wants to be called Nana and stepdad doesn't know what he wants to be called yet. My dad and stepmom haven't decided either.
I call my paternal grandparents Nany & Papa and my maternal grandparents are Cela (short for marcella, idk why i don't call her abuelita or grandma) and Papa.
So, we'll see what sticks when our LO is born. Our parents will all be first time grandparents (and our grandparents will all be first time great-grandparents!)
My mom has been very firm about wanting to be Sitty (my family is Palestinian - hey kmv, I didn't know there were other Arab-Americans here, hi!), she was really clear about that when bro had his LO two months ago. Dad seems ambivalent, but I think he prefers Jiddo. There are a few different names you can use for grandparents in Arabic, sort of associated with different dialects and regions. My mom's parents were always Sitty and Sido to me, and my dad's parents with Teita and Jiddo.
No idea with my husband's parents, we haven't talked about it. His dad is Moroccan and his mom is Polish, so I assume that'll influence the names they want. Everyone calls his mom's parents Mimi and Dadoush, but I'm not sure if Mimi is his grandma's nickname or a Polish name for a grandma.
Been away from theBump for a while, getting active again for all the good advice
They call both my mom and MIL Nana. My mom's name is Barbara so we will sometimes call her B'Nana. They call my dad "Pots" because that it is what it sounded like when my neice tried to call him "Pops" (she is almost 11 now and she still calls him Pots). My FIL is Papa.
My mom would like Nonni (what one of my older cousins called my Nonna, and it always stuck). I don't mind really, so I figured I'd let each grandparent decide. MIL isn't at all Italian, so I'm sure there won't be a conflict with Nonni.
I'm guessing my stepdad and stepmom will go by "Grandma or Grandpa firstname", but we'll see. I'm close with both, but they entered the scene in my teenish years, so I've always called them by first names.
IL's are already Saba and Savta, so I assume they will stay. Step-mother is called Mimi by her grandkids. This will be the first grandchild for my dad. Since I called both sets of grandparents "grandma and grandpa" I am assuming my dad will be Grandpa.

DS calls my dad and stepmom Mamaw and Papaw. They are the grandparents he sees a lot. He calls MIL Nana and my mom Mamaw Donna. He doesn't have names for FIL and his wife. They haven't shown a lot of interest in being grandparents.
My MIL already goes by "Grandma- Her First name" with our niece so I assume that will stick. My dad will probably be grandpa, and not sure about my stepmother. My mom passed away when I was 5, and we rarely ever see H's father, he lives in Puerto Rico.

This is easy for us since both sets of grandparents already have names established with the grandchildren that have already been born. My parents are Grandmom and Grandpop. DH's parents are Meme and Pepe (French).
My grandparents are Mommom and Poppop, and I would have liked to have those names used, but had kids too late!
In laws are Grandma and Grandpa. My dad is Pop Pop and we refer to my mom as Grammy Pammy(she passed away when DS was 4 months old...her name was Pam...that's where the Pammy part came from)

ILs - Mom-Mom (which I hate) and Pop-pop. I hate Mom-Mom for a few reasons, first because their family really holds on to the name..DH is 28 and his sister is 32 and they still call their grandmother Mom-mom. So ridiculous. I'm absolutely telling my kids when they hit like 12 that they can start calling her Grandma or Gram if they want. My DH hates that he still calls her that, but it was always drilled into him that he had to because "that was her name", and now out of habit he still does it. He's actually really embarrassed by it. Another reason I hate Mom-mom is because I feel like it's too close to Mom. That would be like calling the grandfather Dad-dad. I'm just not feeling it. at all : but I guess whatever, I can deal with it, it's obviously not the end of the world. And it's what all her other grandkids call her, so it would probably be hard for me to break if I tried.
Re: What will LO call their grandparents?
My parents are called Grandma and Pop Pop; The IL's are called Grammy and Grampy (from and by previous grandkids).
As my kids get older, I imagine they may resort to just "Grandma" and "Grandpa," but for now they each have their own special name.
My folks are nanny & papa.
Our kids have only met MIL once for my son and twice for my daughter (she lives in Quebec and we dont keep in contact much) My daughter met FIL once and my son never has (he lives in Ontario) we hardly EVER hear from him.
They call them Grandma Frances and grandpa Patrick.
My parents- grandma and Grandpop
DH parents- Not sure they are divorced and I was looking for suggestions...

My dad will be Pepere (french)
DH's mom will likely be grandma.
my mom: Sitto (Arabic for Grandmother, we are Lebanese)
my dad: Poppy (first niece called him that instead of grandpa coming out so we have stuck with it)
his mom: don't speak to her
his dad: passed away

My mom is Italian-American and likes "Nonna." My dad is deceased but was Greek-American so when I talk about him I'll use "Papou."
