OK, I have read in the books that the baby will look for the nipple at the end of every sleep cycle and will need it to get back to sleep, but that never used to happen. Now, I thought he was waking due to teething and the 4 month wakeful, but he wakes every hour just like it says in the book. He falls back asleep when he nurses. Does this happen to anyone else? I know some use a paci to get to sleep and their LO's are not up every hour. He will not take a paci though, I am so super confused about what to do!
Re: those who nurse their lo to sleep. . . .
Yep. This is my life now exactly. Nightmare.

I would start praying that your LO finds his thumb! Ds started sucking his thumb at 4mo and is finally able to self sooth. (He still gets up 1-3 times a night, but at least it's not every hour!)
Before he sucked his thumb, he also refused the paci. What I did was push DS's mouth against me (like I was nursing) and wedge the paci in so he wouldn't really know the difference. Sometime it would work, sometimes not... GL! Just know that it can't last long
We started the 4 month wakeful this week. 3 nights of horror. Then, on the third night, I didn't know what else to do to get DD to go down and so I laid her on her stomach. She was out in a minute and slept 10-5. Last night I nursed her to sleep, rocked for about 20 minutes, laid her on her back and she was crying w/in seconds. Flipped her over, asleep within seconds and slept until I woke her up at 5:30, so 8:30-5:30. I think we've found our new miracle. I think it's easier for her to find her thumb this way.
My pedi said at 4 months it's ok to let the baby sleep on her stomach, and she can lift her head great. I may get judged, but I'm getting sleep again.
