Can I take Robitussin and Sudafed or Tylenol?

I am soooo sick, left work early today, I think it's just a cold (cough, runny nose, headache, etc). The OB said I could take Sudafed and Robitussin for the cough, but can i take them together? I need something for the cough but also something for the headache. They do not contain the same ingredients.

You can take all three, just make sure they are all plain, no initials.

Personally, I HATE it when OB's/MD's tell you brand names that are OK. I understand brand recognition, but there are so many Robitussin's and Tylenol's and Sudafed's out there, it's so easy to confuse them. Dextromethrophan is OK for cough, that's what's in plain Robitussin. Pseudoephedrine (available behind the counter) is usually preferred over Sudafed PE (phenylephrine) as a decongestant. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is category B as a pain reliever and OK for the headache. Just make sure you look at the back of the box/bottle for the active ingredients list and make sure that those are the only 3 ingredients you're taking. And yes, these are fine to take together, so long as you follow their individual dosing requirements on the box/bottle. GL and I hope you feel better soon!

Yes, all 3 are on the safe list.

My list has Robitussin and Robitussin DM listed as safe, as is regular Sudafed.

All three are on my safe list as well. However the midwife at my practice told me that if it is a headache and not a fever a hit of caffeine may do the trick. It worked for me 90% of the time.

And if you buy the sudafed and the robitussin at the same time, your pharm will think you are trying to make meth, or do some robo trippin. Big Smile

This. My OB said all these are fine, but all plain regular strength. So No Sudafed PE or Reobitussin DM. When in doubt you can also ask the pharmacist before you check out. Mine is always super helpful when I ask about stuff.
