mine doesn't STTN but he'll go 5-6 hours without waking, he was up to 8/9 hours which for a BF baby I consider STTN. We're doing elimination instead of any CIO method. It works but takes longer.
I used to nurse to sleep and my LO has never sttn. But now, even though she goes down drowsy, she still doesn't sttn. She wakes up A LOT less than she used to (now 2 times a night vs. every hour). But it was also taking up to 2 hours to get her to go down at night, so we had to sleep train at bedtime only. But every baby is different. I don't plan to sleep train at night wakings since some babies can continue to need to wake up to eat twice a night until they are 9 months. Plus mine is on the small size, so want to make sure she gets as much as needs.
I always nursed DS to sleep and would do it if he woke in the middle of the night. I did this up to almost 2 weeks ago when I stopped BFing. Now I give him a bottle and lay him in his crib awake. He rolls around for 5 or 10 minutes and eventually just falls asleep on his own. Sometimes he will whine here and there but it's nothing. He STTN around 9 or 10 hours. He actually wakes less now. I think the formula holds him over a little better.
Re: does nursing to sleep = never sttn?
I dont agree.
I think it will always cont. We were nursing to sleep, now we just kinda rock to sleep.
We dont (haven't) sleep trained and we have had many STTNs.

This, except for mine STTN a little earlier than that. I would say not related!
