Am I missing something? (Menopur)

I picked up my overflowing grocery bag of meds today from the pharmacy. 8 boxes of menopur, 2 boxes of ovidrel. I've done the ovidrel before and gonal-f so I'm used to everything being in one place. I opened up one of the menopur boxes and have all the vials and q-caps, but...where is the syringe??? I don't have anything to actually inject myself with.

Am I missing something (like overlooking an obvious fact?) or am I literally missing the syringes?? I'd call my RE's office to ask, but they're closed...and I don't want to call the pharmacy unless I know if I'm supposed to get them from there or if I'm supposed to get them from my dr.

You should get separate syringes for Menopur. I would call the pharmacy.

ETA - My clinic actually had to put the syringes I would need on my prescription. If there aren't syringes listed on the prescription your pharmacy has, they may need that information from your doctor. Good luck!

Huh...

Ok so I called the pharmacy. He told me that my doctor didn't call in an order for any syringes. (???) He said that he can try billing my insurance for them, but that insurance doesn't normally cover the syringes so I can always come there and buy them myself.

Seriously? I just got almost $5,000 worth of injectible medication and I have to BUY the SYRINGES?

I should clarify--That's how much the meds cost. I am fortunate to have good insurance so I just have a co-pay but my point was that with meds that expensive you'd think they'd "kick in" the syringes. I'm calling my RE tomorrow!

Is your gonal f in vials or pens? If it is in vials you can draw up your menopur and gonal f in the same needle and just do one shot. Assuming you have needles for the gonal f.

Weird that insurance wouldn't cover them, but my syringes and the tiny 30 gauge needles were only like $2 for 15 - it was less than my prescription copay so they likely shouldn't be too much.

That's odd. My doctor always had to order the syringes on the prescription, but they have alwasy been given to me free of charge (through Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, Freedom Fertility Pharmacy and soon The Apothecary Shop - just order my meds today).

Oh I didn't realize they'd be so cheap...I'm still going to call my RE's office to double check.

To the other poster--I've done gonal-F in the past. This cycle is strictly a menopur cycle to see if the FSH/LH combo helps me respond better than pure FSH.

I just did about 23 days on menopur. I started doing 2 vials a day and ended on 6 vials a day. I started on sub-q shots and ended the last 2 weeks going intramuscular. How are you doing it?? They arent bad at all... the sub q needle is tiny as anything .. like an insulin needle... i think total for my needls for the whole month i paid like 20 out of pocket cause my prescription didnt cover it. It did cover the meno pure and at this point i have like 7 boxes that i never used lol ... hop you have as much luck with it as I had

Hi! I am going to be doing 4 vials a day (300 units) to start out. They are the sub-q shots which I've done before with gonal-f and ovidrel. I'm just a bit nervous because I've heard that the menopur stings pretty bad. My other shots I don't even feel! Did you do IUI or IVF? We are doing IUI, and my other 2 injectibles cycles I responded quickly and we were doing IUI's around days 9/10 or 10/11. We'll see what happens with menopur.
