Does your DS have any dolls?

I told DH that I want to buy DS a doll before baby is born in March so I can teach him to be gentle with a baby. DH said, "no way"

What do you think, would having a doll ahead of time be helpful? Or should I buy a doll anyway just to spite my husband?:)

  • Not yet, but he will at Christmas! He plays with them all the time at our friends house.

  • Yes and he will be getting a more "real" looking baby for Christmas.  I don't get daddies who don't want their sons to have dolls - are they not fathers?  Why shouldn't their sons imitate that??
  • I bought him a soft baby doll a couple weeks ago and he loves it.  He picked it off the toy shelf when we were shopping at TJ's and wouldn't put it down.  Only his stuffed Elmo ranks higher as favorite lovey.

ETA:  Oh, and when I mentioned it to DH later that day he was unphased, thought it was a good idea with the baby coming.

I completely agree, I think its ridiculous that DH said he didnt want DS to have one. He acted the same way about buying a toy kitchen too.

  • We are getting him a few for Christmas! He loves them. That's all he plays with at daycare. My DH also said "no way" but I am buying them for him anyway.
  • My son has 2 Bitty Babies that he loves.  They were one of the first things that he was able to recognize by name.  He plays with them daily, gives them kisses and and puts them to sleep.  I don't see any problems with boys having dolls or other traditionally "girl" things.
  • Yep, they have a baby doll. She makes a creepy noise when she cries but other than that, they love her and give her lots of hugs. Alex has also decided that one of the Little People (a little boy with blond hair) is "Will" and he likes to carry his "Will" doll around with him. ;)

  • No, but only because he's shown pretty much no interest in his stuffed animals so I didn't think he'd want to play with a doll either. He's really only into toys with wheels - he's been like that since he was 3 months old. If I thought he'd like it, I'd definitely get him one. Maybe I will anyway if/when we get pg again.
  • DS is getting one for Christmas. He plays with a baby at DC and after seeing him with it and kissing it and carrying it we are definately getting him one. DH was a little hesitant at first ( I think it's a Macho thing) but once he saw DS with it he was absolutey excited to get him one. He even started shopping online to find the one that looks the most like DS.

  • Yea, he has Claudia. I plan on getting him a Cabbage Patch for Christmas. He LOVED Baby Alive when we saw her at the mall, too

  • My Mom bought him one.  It's the kind that closes it's eyes when you lay it down.  It's cute, he lays it down and says "night night".

I would get one.  It can't hurt.

  • Yep, he has a baby doll he carries around. He calls her "bubba" which we think is cute!
  • I'd say it's fine to get one :)  DD has one that her DCP gave her for christmas. She doesn't find it interesting now but if we were expecting no. 2 I'd probably teach her "gentle" like you suggested.

This exactly! If it has wheels or can possibly roll, H loves it.  He doesn't have any sort of lovey.

  • We got him one shortly after he was born, but he doesn't like to play with that one. He did, however, find my old Raggedy Ann doll and he LOVES her. He also has a cabbage patch kid that he adores.

  • Cedric has one little cabbage patch doll, doesn't really play with it though.  He also has other 'dolls' like Woody from Toy Story and such.  I have no problem with him having dolls and DH doesn't care either.
