My sorority sisters and I take turns hosting Bunco every month. Well I received my monthly Bunco evite for November and the host has made it a Bunco/Jewlery party. You know, those home parties where you are expected to buy something. Ummm, WTF? I want to go play Bunco. Not look at a bunch of jewlery and feel pressured to buy something. I don't mind going to those parties, I usually will attend when I'm invited and enjoy them. But I want to go play Bunco. Not shop. I don't have any extra money to buy jewlery. I have a baby to shop for and Christmas is coming up. I wouldn't even mind if we showed up and she had a "catalogue" party, but to have a person come and do a demonstration when we are supposed to be playing bunco just seems tacky.
Am I out of line here?
Re: Is it me or is this tacky??
Has it been done before? Is this the first time someone is using a bunco party to also sell stuff? If so, I would say it is super duper tacky. Ew.
Some people are weird though. I had a good friend that combined her bridal shower with a body shop demonstration/selling thingy. I hated the experience.
No...that's tacky. If she wanted to do a jewelry party it should have been a separate event.
My suggestion is to either skip it this month or better yet call her and ask when the demonstration part will be...tell her you'll come for Bunco before or after so you can play and catch up with everyone, but you're going to skip the sales pitch since you're super busy/tired/whatever and won't be buying anything anyways.
No, it's never been done before. At the minimum, she should have at least said at the last party "Hey, would anyone mind if I did this?" The purpose of our GTG's is to play Bunco, drink (I'm of course not doing this right now) and gossip. That's it. Not buy crap! lol.
I dunno. It wouldn't bother me. Those jewelry parties are usually just the lady with her crap laid out on a table. No pressure sales like Pampered Chef or something.
I would go and just not buy anything if I didn't have the extra money.
I think its tacky, because this person will be making money off of something that is traditionally just a friendly get together of sorority sisters! I feel as if this is her quick ticket to make a profit without having to throw a seperate party. Obviously she doesnt have enough people wanting to throw a party, and she's having to use this as her oppurtunity to make some money!
just my opinion!!
