I am teetering on high BP already. Have always been good and was good with DS but its already hovering around 140/90. I have to watch it the next few days and if it doesn't get better then they will do some labs and probably put me on some meds. Any experiences good or bad with it? Thanks
Re: anyone have high BP and on meds?
I have chronic hypertension, and have been taking methyldopa (Aldomet) since before the pregnancy. My BP was low for a few weeks but it seems to have gone back to what it was before the pregnancy now (130s/80s). My doctor (I see a cardiologist along with my OB) has me take my BP every day and he'll go over the numbers when I see him next. I'm on the lowest dose, so there will be room to increase as needed throughout the pregnancy.
As far as I know both labetalol and methyldopa are the safest for pregnancy. Methyldopa has been around longer, so I think that's why my doctor goes with it.

thanks...i sent you a PM
thanks for the info! I would rather be on something then to worry the whole time.....
I was on labetalol as well most of my first pregnancy and am headed for it again (running 140's/80's and seeming to be trending up). I had great experience with it. No issues and the first time it dropped my BPs which were running in the 150's/high 90's to the 120's/70's. Woo-hoo. The really great thing about it is that they can give you A LOT of it, so during labor when we BP went nuts, they just pumped me full of it. I had to stay on it for about 3 months post-partum until my BP came down and you can use it while nursing too.
GL and PM me if you have any other questions.
Got it, sent you one back
I have ALWAYS had h/p...even when I was 120lbs & 21 yrs old. Now, I'm on 3 htn meds...methyldopa, nifedipine and metroprolol. Hypertension really blows!
Good luck with controlling yours.
