VBAC

Waterbirth VBAC?

I haven't been able to speak with my OB yet nor a MW but I really want to have a waterbirth but this will be a VBAC. Has anyone done this successfully or is anyone planning on it? Any thoughts, comments or concerns?

Re: Waterbirth VBAC?

  • I'm planning a WBAC (waterbirth VBAC).  My birth center specializes in water birth.  I'm looking forward to it.  I think the water will really help relax me and take away some of the pain and discomfort.  Of course, I don't know that for sure yet, but I do have hopes. :)

  • I wanted a waterbirth the first time, but the tub was too hot and I didn't stay in there very long.  That being said, now I know my temperature issue and may try it again.  The MW group I am switching to does VBAC waterbirths (birth center attached to the hospital), but the only thing is that I need to have CFM.  They say people keep the monitors on in the water, but we'll see how I feel at the time.

  • I'm planning to use a tub at least for labor if not for the birth.  My plan is to just see what I feel like doing when I get to the pushing phase.

  • I'm preparing for a waterbirth VBAC with a hospital midwife group Smile  I want to go med-free and the midwives encouraged me to consider a waterbirth.  Everything I've read and everyone I've talked with (local ICAN group) suggests the water is very beneficial for natural labor in many ways.  Check out www.waterbirth.org and also get your hands on both natural and waterbirth videos.  Those really helped to provide me with a visual for what I might expect.

I was nervous/anxious/worried in previous weeks about my upcoming VBAC.  But at this point with only a few weeks left, I am just so excited and motivated for this VBAC I really do not have any hesitations.

There have been many successful waterbirth VBACs!  HTH and GL!

  • Yes, I had a waterbirth VBAC! The water is the only thing that pulled me through it. My son was 9 lbs 8 oz!! Great decision. I wasn't able to find the waterbirth VBAC option in a neighboring hospital so I had a homebirth with midwives. Best of luck!! You CAN do it!!!
  • I was going to attempt it for my DD and second VBAC but when it came down to pushing, I didn't feel like I could get in a good position in the tub.  Labor felt so much more bearable in the tub though.  You'll have to talk to your OB though, w/ my first VBAC I "had to" go to the hospital and they didn't have the option of a water birth.  This last time I was "allowed to" go to the birth center and they give you more options when it comes to laboring/pushing positions.

  • I am going for a WBAC. I am planning to deliver in a birthing center. They specialize in water births. I can't wait!
