no health insurance

so i just found out that im pregnant about 3 days ago, im 5 weeks pregnant.  i don't have health insurance.  i was told to go with medi-cal...but im not sure exactly what it is, is it real health insurance for pregnant women?  does anyone know? we are working on finding the right health insurance for us (we just got pregnant sooner than expected so we're still in the process of finding HI)anyone have any suggestions or info on that? thanks!

Re: no health insurance

  • medi cal is a program that allows pregnant women who fall into certain income categories to recieve prenatal care with little or no cost. with the program you are able to see any doctor that accepts medi cal. I wouldn't call it health insurance but its a way to get your baby prenatal care.

All you need to do is locate your local social services office and go in there and fill out the application. There are always tons of people there but don't be afraid to ask someone who works there for help filling it out if you need.

  • I had Kaiser and they were great.  They are rated in the top end for "baby centered" facilities in the nation.  Don't know what the cost is though.
