Noise Machines

We have been using a fan in DS' room while he's sleeping to block out house noise. I think I've gotten him addicted to it. Embarrassed It is very cumbersome to load and take with us when we travel, so I'm trying to find something that will simulate that same fan white noise that I can get so we can just throw in our bag and go when traveling. Any ideas? I don't want any specific noises (like waterfalls or something like that) just something with white noise similar to a fan. If it has other sounds that's fine, but it has to have a white noise...anyone found one they like? We leave it on the whole time he's sleeping so it can't be one of the timed turns off automatically in 20 minutes type of deal. Which is where I'm running into a problem finding something. Any ideas? TIA

  • We use an older version of this one for John. It doesn't take up too much space and is only the white noise that will continue until John turns it off in the morning. I will be getting this one for DS#2 also. Like you, I didn't want all the other noises or to have to keep turning it on over night.

  • We have this & use it every time she sleeps on the rain setting! It's very portable and DH and I kind of got a little addicted ourselves when DD was sleeping in our room the first 2 months! We don't use the projecter or timer, but it's nice to have those options :)
  • the white noise machine for Nic makes sounds like the ocean, rain, hearbeat, and songs.  We love it and it is very compact.  here is a link to it. I think the ocean may sound like the fan noise but I'm not sure.
  • We use the same one as the two above for both girls.  I have no problem with the girls liking the white noise machine for sleeping if it helps them wake less from all the noise in our house that carries.  I'm pretty used to it now myself since we can hear it through the monitors.  We play the ocean sound also and it sounds the most like a fan to me.

  • do you have an iphone?  there is a white noise app that I use for D sometimes.  It's free and very compact!  The only thing is you'd have to give up your phone while your LO is napping/sleeping.

  • We also use the Homedics one and have since J was about 3 weeks old. I keep it on the ocean which sounds like white noise. It stays on all night and sometimes all day if I forget to turn it off. We use it every day for nap and bedtime and have had no issues, it comes with us wherever we go!
