to explain why I can't lose weight easily?
I've had my thyroid checked by my family doc and no signs of anything wrong there. Today I was at my stroller workout class and the girls were talking about PCOS - I've never been tested, but it's something worth looking into.
Would I got to an endocrinologist to get a good workup on my body and see what's 'wrong'?
TIA!
Re: which doctor would i see....?
That is who I would see. However, they may require your medical records from your regular doctor and a referal. It would be worth having your regular doctor do your bloodwork to see if it's anything kind of obvious. Then move onto an endocrinologist.
I guess if you didn't get any help, the most drastic route would be to see an reproductive endocrinologist, that would probably also require a referal from an OB/GYN - but I don't know that for sure.
Hmmm... your general practitioner should be familiar with PCOS. An OB/GYN should definitely be familiar with it. You could schedule a general appt. with either one. Do you have any symptoms that you're concerned about besides the difficulty losing weight? Symptoms of PCOS sometimes include excess body hair, irregular menstrual cycles, and central obesity.
But even if you have PCOS, there is no magic pill that would make you lose weight. That is still done with diet and exercise. You wouldn't see a reproductive endocrinologist unless you had fertility issues.
