XP: FP Seahorse lovers, help

I am trying to establish a bedtime routine and I've seen lots of good comments about the FP Seahorse.  How do you use it?  Do you keep it in the crib, even though AAP suggest no soft toys in crib until 1 yr of age?

I am also looking at other soothers, the sleep sheep or some sort of calming projector or crib soother.

  • My LO doesn't self soothe at night I have to rock him to sleep.  But I put the seahorse next to him in his lamb swing and that helps him get to sleep.  I also use it when he is extremely fussy to try to distract him while I change him or try to figure out what is wrong.

  • I feel like the seahorse actually wakes my daughter up even more but...she absolutely loves it.   She's always cuddling with it and coo'ing at it. Doesn't help us with bedtime at all.  I actually got a teddy bear at Target that makes white noise that helps her fall back asleep when she wakes up at night.

  • My daughter has the playskool gloworm and loves it. She also has the little violet that I play for her everynight and throughout the night if she wakes up that we all love. It plays music or sounds for 10 or 20 minutes. I don't know what my DH and I will do when she is sleeping in her crib in the other room.  We love violet, best gift.  They sell them at Target.
  • DD loves hers.  We start playing it when we're getting her ready for bed.  It signals that it's time to quiet down.  She likes to stare at the glowing belly while she falls asleep.  There are two different sound settings on it so when she was very little we put it on the more quiet of the two but now that she's older we leave it on the louder one.

As far as in the crib, we usually leave it on the edge of the changing table that is a couple of feet from her crib so she can still see it.  If she's really upset we will put it in the crib with her so she can really see it and hear it and once she falls asleep we take it out.

    HTH!

  • I've never heard of Violet, but after reading the reviews, it's definitely going on the must have list for Christmas!
  • Violet is a must!  They also have Scout the boy dog.  We love her! It even comes with a little blanket and my daughter will grab it when I lay her in the pack and play and violet will be on top of her. The blanket is attached to violet. So cute!
  • We have the seahorse and Violet as my mom just bought her V. Seahorse stays in her crib in the corner and I turn it on everytime she needs to go to sleep. It really soothes her and gets her to sleep. Only time it doesn't work is if she is really in need of a rocking. I like that Violet lasts longer (10 or 20 mins) so I will use that toy at times, but less at nighttime and more for naps or just entertaining her.
