I've been reading around for info on our next cycle (treatment cycle - woots) and ran across this post. I was really shocked that there were quite a few responses and no one cautioned about how dangerous this could be (I've read about that here on the bump). In fact, some ppl said they'd done the same thing. Is it really that common? Wdyt? I know that treatments can be pretty cost prohibitive, but there's got to be a safer alternative? Or maybe there isn't, I guess. Which is really sad.
wdyt?
"I have been TTC since my first son was born 2.5 years ago. I recently
saw a RE and this is my first medicated cycle. He put me on Clomid 100mg
days 3-7 and the Ovidrel trigger shot on day 14.
My insurance does not cover any of this and he told me that we could try
this unmonitored for a few cycles b/c I cannot afford the bloodwork or
ultrasound. He told me just to stick with the standard schedule of
triggering on day 14.
I already ovulate well on my own but they prescribed the Clomid for
unexplained infertility and possibly a luteal phase defect. I am on
cycle day 15 right now. I did the Ovidrel shot last night on day 14.
Now that I am reading more about it, I am concerned that I triggered
without knowing how many mature follicles that there were. I don't want
high order multiples but would never reduce. I have read a lot on the
forum about people with unmonitored clomid cycles ut I have not heard
about unmonitored clomid + ovidrel.
Has anyone heard of this or have any thoughts or suggestions to share?"

Re: "prescribed but unmonitored Clomid + Ovidrel"
You're going to need to throw a link in there.
I can not believe someone would even consider Clomid w/o monitoring at all but 100?!?!?!? That's just asking for trouble.

"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
I hope this link works. I tried CPing a link from this forum before and it didn't work. Let me know.

I'm not going to create an account to reply (mainly because she's already done it and there's little chance she'd listen anyway) but oh my god.
She thinks she has blocked tubes but it okay with this?
She also ovulates on her own and took 100 of clomid with a trigger?
That chick needs to find a new dr. and not look back.

It's scary because she posted this a day later:
"So I woke up this morning just doubled over in pain. It feels like the worst PMS cramps I have ever had. I have never gotten more than mild twinges around the time of ovulation. I don't know if this is from the Ovidrel or what. Hopefully it goes away soon! It has been 36 hours since I did the Ovidrel shot. Owww!!!
I called the doctor afraid that maybe I had hyperstimulation or something and they said it was normal and to take some advil or tylenol. Did anyone else have pain after the Ovidrel shot?"

A friend of my sister is TTC. She went of bcp in March, and hasn't had a normal period yet. She had to go to her obgyn to get a progesterone supp to jumpstart her period, at which the doctor gave her Clomid. All along I've had my sister advocate for her to get monitored, but her doctor has refused. Instead, he's told her to lose weight. This doctor also hasn't done a basic fertility workup, and has mentioned in passing she *might* have pcos but doesn't think testing is necessary. He's a quack, but she's going right along.
Oh, this girl is a nurse.
People are stupid.
seriously.
