I am worried it will be hard. I'm sticking with breastfeeding until 12 months. Then I am weaning. I don't want it to take too much longer than 12 mos. I am over BFing and K won't take a bottle now so that doesn't help.
I started by cutting out the mid-day feeding. It was easier for me maybe b/c he was already in daycare during the week. The last feeding I dropped was the nighttime one, about 13 months.
I did the same thing as Wendy. Ian would only bf at night. When I was done, I put bandaids on my nipples and said they were broken. Ian was 15 months old. He cried a few nights, but I shamefully replaced nighttime feedings with milk with a little bit of chocolate mix in it. It worked. Good luck.
I am doing this now because I am returning to work in a couple of weeks, and I have to say it is not as bad as I thought it was going to be....the bounding time was the most difficult for me.....Gianna would eat from the boob about 5-6x a day so I cut out one feeding a day for about 5 days and than I would drop the next feeding, and supplemented with formula....The last feeding I dropped was her morning feeding, so she now gets 3 formula bottles and I still BF before bedtime, that will be my last feeding I drop starting on Monday.....My boobs have barely hurt during the day..they do get a little more full around 5:00 or so in the evening, but the whole experience has been great...I heard all these horror stories about your boobs killing you etc...but not me....so far so good!!
