I'm trying to figure out what's going on. The last few days one nipple hurts so bad when dd latches on, like needles are piercing it. The pain is momentary and I can nurse, but the nipple tip is painful to the touch. No cracking or bleeding. The other nipple is perfectly fine.
Someone on breastfeeding board suggested thrush. Dd has white on her tongue, but doc said last time it was milk. I haven't really checked her mouth lately, but I will in the morning. She has, however, been battling what looks like is a yeast diaper rash (red dots on more than just her privates).
Could this be thrush? Do I need to see a doc or will it go away on its own?
Re: Anyone ever have thrush?
When I had thrush it started in DS as a yeast diaper rash. Our pedi suggested Lotriman (sp?) and it went away only to come back worse about 2 weeks later. That is when I felt the symtoms in my breast and he had white spots on his inner cheeks. Sounds like thrush to me, but I would see the dr and get the good medicine 1st and not waste my time on the otc stuff.
That does sound like thrush. Have you been on antibiotics lately? That was what caused mine.
I would go to the doctor. I got nystatin cream for me and stuff for Sadie's mouth (I think it was also nystatin?) Also you'll want to feed her yogurt and culturelle. Good luck! It's kind of a PITA, sorry you're dealing with it!
That sounds like thrush to me. I felt so bad, I didn't realize that DS had it until I had it too and it was hurting to nurse. We went to the doctor and she gave me a script for Diflucan (oral) and a script for DS of Nystatin.
ETA: Here is a post from Sharra711. She posted on the BF board a lot when I was there. This was super helpful for us in getting rid of the thrush for good. (I never tried the Genetion Violet though, I heard it stains everything) HTH
