F/U Heartburn

I am not sure if yall remember, but a while back  posted about having terrible heartburn since having Austin. Well I finally got around to going to the Dr about it.

The Dr. said I definitely have GERD, but it could be as worse as a bleeding ulcer or my gallstones acting up. They took a bunch of blood to run some tests. She also prescribed a high dose of Zantac take in case it is the GERD.

If you could please spare some vibes I would appreciate it.

Re: F/U Heartburn

  • ooh you got it!  jeff had that and it was awful!  I've been getting some really bad heartburn at night lately.

jeff's has been a lot better and he hasn't been taking his medicine lately.  i think they thought it was somewhat stress related?

I had horrible heartburn while I was pregnant, but I would mostly get it at night. Now I am getting it first thing in the morning when I wake up. It feels like all the acid is running down into my stomach when I stand up, which concerns the Dr.

  • Sad That sounds awful! ::vibes:: I hope they figure it out & get you feeling better asap!
  • I'm sorry Nicole. I hope the Zantac helps.
  • I've got GERD (had it for a few years now) so I know what you're talking about.  Nexium is expensive but works extremely well for most people.  A low fat diet helps and also not laying down for at least 30 min after you eat helps also.  For me it took some time for the medicine to get it under control but once I changed my diet and watched more of what I ate (just made better choices honestly) it made a huge difference.  The part I hated the most was the feeling of having a bitter taste in my mouth which was due to the reflux of acid at night.  One thing that helps is sleeping on your left side and elevated if you can manage it.  A lot of people buy bed lifts at Bed Bath and Beyond to do this but I can sleep elevated on pillows and be ok so I just did that.  HTH & sending lots of vibes.

Thanks... I have been an a low fat diet since having Austin, so I am not sure what more I can change about that. But I will try the sleep tips.

  • I have GERD. I take Prevacid over the counter. Zantac does nothing for me, I have to take it twice or maybe 3 times a day sometimes.  Stay away from advil because it can cause your stomach lining to get irriated.
