at night or for naps? i am just curious what others do....i don't like to close P's door so i can look in on her but DH thinks i am a little crazy and says i should just close it to block out noise, pets, etc.....
so what do you do?

I shut it, but not all the way, I leave a little crack in the door, that way when I go to check on her, I don't have to make too much noise opening the door. Also, generally Leighton is really nosy, so if she sees the living room light on or hears the TV, she will want to get up... she thinks she is missing out on something ha ha
No....I don't like to close our door because it gets stuffy so I choose not to close her door too. We have baby gates up so we don't have to worry about our pets.
No, I keep it open. Our bedrooms are on the 2nd floor, so I don't worry about noise when he's in bed. We also don't use a monitor, so I have to be able to hear him if he wakes up at night.
I keep it closed, but we have a smaller old house so I don't want him to wake up if there is too much noise. Our floors alone could probably wake him up with all the creaking!

We keep his door open. It doesn't bother me if my dog goes in his room at night or when he's sleeping. Noises don't tend to bother him either. I can vacuum the house and he stays asleep.
I do for naps and nighttime because Cormac is a really light sleeper and wakes up easily. He has a sound machine, but am still paranoid about waking him up accidentally. We have a video monitor so I look at that if I want to check on him.
eta: His bedroom is on the first floor (along with ours and is also right next to a bathroom. We also have hardwood/creeky floors. It all adds to the noise factor

Yes, I do. I mostly do it in case DS wakes up in the middle of the night to go potty. When he does, he usually cries and I don't want him waking the girls up. We don't close his door because he freaked out the other night when he was disoriented in the middle of the night and peed in his room.

We keep her door closed when she's sleeping. She's a light sleeper, so i want it as quiet as possible, plus we have 3 dogs and they like to go in there and cause a racket.

Love your siggy pic! We have a similar picture of Adleigh. I wish I was that flexible!

We close it for naps, and when she first goes to bed in the evening. I think it cuts down on the noise from the living room, and stops the dog from venturing in.
When we got to bed, we open it. (I would probably walk into it in the night if we kept it closed!)

Us too. Plus his room is closet to the family room so if he heard us talking or the TV he's be up in a flash thinking like he was missing something.

Tooter Man is the same way.. so his door is closed for all naps and bedtime.

This is exactly what we do. We also don't have a monitor (our house is small and her room is only a few steps from ours), so I leave her door open when I go to bed and our door open so I can hear her if she cries.
We always close DS' door when he sleeps, especially during the day when he naps. There's usually lots of activity at our house during the day, so it can get pretty loud. DH greased the hinges on DS' door so it opens silently when I want to go check on him.
For naps it stays completely open, but at night it is shut - but not to the point of the door handle/lock engaging into the frame - we leave it so that we can push it open (not have to turn knob and push) if that makes sense.

I always close his door. Our house is one story, and his bedroom is right off the living room. So if we left the door open, it'd be too noisy. We even close the pocket door that separates the living area from the bedrooms to reduce the noise. I never check on him during naps (he sleeps too lightly, and I *always* wake him when I open the door), and rarely check on him at night.
I do open his door before I go to bed, though. His room is the coldest in the house, and now that it's getting cooler at night, I like for the warmer air to flow into his room.
We always close the door, but only to keep the noise out. Her room is right off the living room and she is a very light sleeper. If she were on a second floor, or farther away from the hub, I would keep it open. I like to check on her also, even though she's almost 1!

Blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby girl on 11/22/2009.
The wait, though heartbreaking, was well worth it.
wide open, but there's no seperate thermostat in her room, so if I closed it she'd get no heat. It's right off the living room too, so when she goes to bed, DH and I have to watch TV in our room.
I close the door because other wise he would get no sleep. His older brother makes noise, the dogs are usually running around/barking at random things, and he is a very light sleeper. We do have a video monitor that I use to check on him.

For naps, I close the door and keep the monitor with me. At night I open the door when we head to bed and keep it 1/2 open. Our room is next door and we keep our door 1/2 open too so we can hear if they wake up and can peek in if we need to without making noise opening the door.

Doors only get closed when it's nap time or bed time. Keeping the doors closed helps keep out the other kids and some of their noise. We've always closed the doors when our kids are sleeping. Also, it helps keep in cool air or heat, depending on time of the year.
Re: do you close LO's bedroom door when sleeping?
Yup I always close his door.
mainly because I don't want the cat going in there and distracting him though.
he also sleeps in the dark

Definitely, I don't trust that my cat won't jump in her crib. It's also quieter for her that way.
I have a portable video monitor though so I don't really need it open to see her.

FYI: You and your LO should always sleep with the door closed for fire safety reasons.
