travel DVD player recommendations?

We'd like to get one for DD, but I don't know what kind to get.  I'd love your recommendations!

Re: travel DVD player recommendations?

  • We got one that had 2 screens but could play 2 different things and plugged into the car only.  We liked it b/c we could put it on the back or front headrest, depending on which way he is facing.  Our main deciding factor was that he is too little to hold it in his lap to watch (he would probably chunk it!).  We thought about getting the one that runs on batteries, but I hear they don't last that long, and I can't see us needing it anyway (anywhere we would go - hotel, friend/family house, etc. would have a tv in the room).

The annoying thing about it is that the volume is on the tv part only and not on the remote, so it's a pain to lean over if it is too loud/soft (he is RF, so the player is on the back seat headrest - this would be easier if he was FF and the player was on the front seat headrest)

  • Loading the player...
  • If it is just for car trips and not to bring into other places then I would lean towards a player that is the flat screen. We had one that folded open and closed (like a laptop) and Kaley kicked it to death. We eventually had to throw it out because it would no longer play a DVD with skipping or randomly restarting.

  • Also - I don't know if they make them, but see if you can find some with the buttons on the top of the screen.  DS tends to kick at our screen and he will push buttons with his feet and stop the DVD by accident.  I am thinking if the buttons were at the top, they wouldn't be as easy to mess with.
  • We have this one.  We actually have been using it as our regular DVD player plugged into our TV, and we're really happy with it.  We've had it for a year and a half with no issues.

  • We have the Sony dvd portable player and is nice.  Doesn't skip or do funky stuff.

  • We have 2 and they are different brands (Sony and Panasonic I think).  I have no problems with either.  The main thing to look at is the battery life.  The Panasonic only lasts 2 hours but the Sony is 8 (again, I think).  I wish I would have checked that out more in depth before I bought the Panasonic.
  • We have a Phillips DVD player (that I got at Costco for a great price!) and we like it. I agree about checking on the battery life...I think ours plays for 5 hours.
