Temp Question

Does the thermometer moving around in your mouth effect the temp result?

Re: Temp Question

  • IMO no, it shouldn't.

  • you're supposed to try to temp in the same location each day.  I don't know if there would be a huge variation or not, but try the best you can to temp using the same location in the mouth and keep it as stable and stationary as possible.

  • Are you keeping it under your tongue?

  • If I remember correctly (either from FF or TCOYF) there is a slight temp variation from the front of your mouth to the back of your mouth (under you tongue), I *think* it's like 0.1 degrees or something, so really is should affect it too much, but it can make a minor difference.
  • Yes I am taking it under my mouth...

For example this morning I took my temp and it was kinda slipping around a little under my tongue (I was half sleeping) and the "completion beep" went off fairly quickly. So I immediately took my temp again making sure to hold it in one spot and got a totally different temp.

I know you are always supposed to use the first temp but since it was moving around I am wondering if the 2nd temp is more accurate.

  • Take the 1st temp.
  • In that case I would use the 2nd temp then, and make a note of the 1st temp.

  • There is a diagram of the variances in your mouth in the directions of some thermometers. It shows the variances by zone, so it said for TTC/temping purposes to always take it the exact same location. I want to say it came with the CVS BBT thermometer I bought. They say the best place is under the tongue towards the back of your tongue.

HTH...sorry I'm so late on the post. :-)
