Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Should I get a pack-n-play?

Haven't purchased one yet and was just thinking about one for holiday travel.

He's almost 4 months now...do you think it's still worth it to get one?  Is there one you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Re: Should I get a pack-n-play?

  • My 2.5 year old still sleeps in one when we travel, and they are great playpens- you will get lots of use from it! We have a graco, but I would recommend getting a basic one- you don't need the bassinet etc. at this age.

  • Definitely worth the $$ for travel.  I wouldn't invest in one with all the bells and whistles, but unless this is going to be your last LO I would make sure it has the bassinet (sp?) feature.  You will use it next time.
  • I used our pack n play with Lilly until she was a year old. The main reason I used it is b/c we have a dog and it was great to have a safe place to put a mobile child when I took the dog out for a quick bathroom break or somewhere to put her while I prepared dinner. I will definitely be using it for Owen to have a safe place away from his sister:) I would just a basic one at this point. Its not like you need a newborn napper or changing table (unless you plan on having another in which case you might want one with all the bells and whistles).

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! I ordered one from amazon! (I LOVE the Amazon mom program-check it out if you haven't yet.)

  • Yes! They are great for traveling and with the holidays coming up I know ours will get used.

We didn't get one with all the bells and whistles.  Just a simple Graco pack and play, no newborn napper, no diaper changing station, just a standard PNP and it works great!

  • Oh yes, get one! We didn't even get one for DS#1 until he was maybe 6 or 7 months, so he could take naps in it in the livingroom (we had a one bedroom apartment and I didn't want to bother taking him in and out of the crib up to three times a day and interupt DH while he slept).  We used it until he was 18 months or so - until he started climbing out.

Right now the baby takes naps in it as well - and it comes in very handy for traveling.

  • I never got one with Emerson and didn't miss it.  I purchased two with the twins and still haven't used them.  We travel over the holiday to my parents house and my mom has two cribs which work while we are there.

It honestly depends on what your LO gets used to and where you are traveling/the sleeping conditions are where you will be staying.

When I purchased the PNP for the twins I didn't expect to use them a lot so, I just got the cheap ones and I'm glad that I did.  I'm sure we will get minimal use out of them if any at all.
