Generally, I get upset to hear people vote straight-ticket. Do your research and vote for the best candidate (and this isn't geared to the posters here - I had a big discussion with H about his straight-ticket voting before last election).
I look at the individual for the most part (it is rare that someone sways me to the dark side, but it has been known to happen) but I admit for some of the more "minor" races I vote straight ticket (auditor, etc). Although, here in MA it is not a big deal - a lot of those tend to be uncontested Democrat incumbents.

Ditto. I have no problem with people who research all the candidates and end up going straight ticket, but I get really upset by people who blindly vote for a specific party. What a waste of a great right..
I'm generally a straight-ticket voter with very few exceptions. My personal values tend to align with one party in particular. I'd vote for someone of a different party if our values were closely matched but that's very unlikely to happen most of the time.

Same here. It's no secret that I lean reaaaallly far to the left. In general I just don't share any values with the Republican party- I'm all about nationalized health care, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage. If there was ever a Republican whose values mirrored my own then, well, chances are that they'd have already been ousted.
(That being said I did make one exception when it came to voting for state treasurer today.)

This. If voting straight-ticket is the product of laziness, yeah, that's hard for me to respect. But in my case, most of the time, my values simply don't align w/ candidates outside the party that generally gets my votes. I still do my research and I'm not always thrilled w/ the individual I am voting for, but if their platform aligns w/ my beliefs philosophically, I vote for them.
I understand people having strong ties to the ideals of a party... what I don't understand is people (candidates) who flip flop between parties depending on public mood. like lieberman ... wasn't it he who has run as dem and independent and another party. not to mention the parties have changed a lot... I tend to agree with some topics of one and some on the other... so depending on what the major issues are and the stance by the people running, I'll vote.

This statement doesn't make any sense to me. Often times, especially in the current political climate, one party truly does represent a person's values best. In addition, I also think it's VERY important that my party controls the House and Senate.
I just get so sick of people criticizing other people's voting methods. I think it's important to be informed and to vote. But I really don't care how someone reaches their decision.
I generally vote straight ticket Democrat because my ideals usually line up pretty completely with the party's ideals. This time I did a bit of research and ended up voting one Republican and the rest Democrat.

Re: s/o voting...
It varies. In November 2008, I voted straight party. Today, I voted for democratic governor (who lost) and Republican most of the rest of the way.

I was up until 2am doing my research last night! I even research the judges.
I might take this a little too seriously, but I cannot stand when people just vote for whomever someone tells them to vote for.
