A friend of a friend's daughter was talking about H'ween last weekend. She's 8, and I was asking her about ToT, is she excited, etc. She told me her mom lets her eat candy on H'ween night and then makes them throw the rest in the trash. W.T.F. I was so sad when she told me that. It seem to send all kinds of honked up messages to her. She said "oh, besides the candy me and my sister hide." They already have all their hiding spots picked out. : (
I get limited your child's sugar intake. So let them ToT one block, not a whole street. Totally. But to trash it? I guess one sibling has Type 1. I'd trade out her sugar candy and let her have sugar free, in moderation w/ the rest of the kids.
Then my sister told me a friend of hers, when growing up, had to watch her mom put all their h'ween candy in her car trunk. And they never saw it again. Seriously, what is with people??
Re: Met an 8 year old who has to hide her H'ween candy. : (
Wow. My mom was crazy too, we couldn't eat a piece of candy until she went through and got what she liked and we got the "left overs". Then again my mom is off her rocker=)
I'm that mean mom I guess because I restrict my kids candy intake too. They're only 2 and almost 4 and when they're older maybe it'll be different, but for now they need me to tell them when to stop. We only ToT'd our street, but the neighbors all make crazy goodie bags so even at just a few houses there is way too much. We told the kids they can pick 15 of their favorite pieces each and the rest goes to work with mom for the 'free for all' counter. But, it's not like we don't have candy and other treats like ice cream and other sweets throughout the year. I just know that if I let them sit down with a bag of candy it would be gone in a day. Plus, DH and I don't need the added temptation either.
This is completely reasonable IMO.
Thank you!
