At today's appointment I tried to approach the topic of trying a natural delivery without being induced before my EDD again. Dr said he was inducing me to reduce and possibly prevent the need for a c-section. When I asked what put me at risk for having a c-section if I made it to term he gave a blanket response by saying anything can happen when you go into labor naturally. When I told him that everything I'd read stated that if you're induced before your cervix softens you double your risk of requiring a c/s and wasn't sure how his inducing me regardless of my cervix softness would prevent or reduce the need for a c/s he asked if I had gone to medical school because he had.
My response:
"As a grown adult and now a mother, it is my duty to ensure I'm receiving proper care. Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you are doing everything you can to make my birthing experience a positive one and not doing procedures that are medically unnecessary. If you're not open to try a different route that is safe for me and my baby, then I'm not open to you being my dr. I don't trust you and am apprehensive about you delivering my baby because of your attitude toward a more natural birth plan. I am under no delusion that my L&D will be picture perfect or that something unexpected wont arise, but your indifference toward a more natural route to delivery scares me. I don't have high bp, I don't have gd, I don't have signs of fetal distress or pre-e and yet you insist on serving my daughter an eviction notice at my very first appointment. You refuse to give me any medical documentation or study that shows I need to be induced and every time I try to approach the topic of a noninvasive delivery you curtly shut me down and patronize my views without medical justification. You tell me that a natural birth is basically going out into the wilderness and getting eaten by a bear. How am I supposed to be comfortable or optimistic about my delivery when you try and strike fear into me so that I will bend to your will? I'm sorry Dr. B, but you don't need to worry about my pregnancy or delivery as you will no longer be my OB."
I feel so much better!!! I meet with my new OB Thursday.
Re: OB got the boot!!!
WTF? This kills me..... he asked if I had gone to medical school because he had?????
Done. Forget it. See ya later. Thats one comment I wouldnt take from my doctor.
You did good.
Good for you.
Just he induce every patient right at 40 weeks whether they need it or not?
He wanted to induce me at 39 weeks. He didn't even want me to reach my EDD. I do have a clotting disorder, but having spoke to another OB and doing a little research of my own, that by itself is not a good reason to induce early. I found out that a co-worker's daughter had him as her OB and he gave her an episiotomy without telling her even though she specifically said she didn't want one. He just finally pissed me off enough that I snapped. I'm not going to lie I did rehearse parts of my speech in my car before my appointment because I knew how he'd react.
I'd be pissed if my doctor went against my wishes - I'm so glad I have probably the most amazing doctor in the world (I've been seeing him for a few years because of my very severe endometriosis). You're a brave woman, I would have started crying or passed out trying to tell the doc off! Hopefully this new doc is amazing!! I'm impressed by you! lol
AWESOME!! You rock.
Seriously, I'm impressed. Hope all goes well with the new OB!

Good for you!! He sounds like a real winner.
touche!
I didn't really give him a chance to say anything. Toward the end of my rant I grabbed my jacket and purse and had my hand on the door. As I left his nurse said she was sorry I was leaving in such a state. I did hear the dr call my name as I left the room, but I just ignored him and walked on.
AWESOME! I love it. Dr.'s are so full of themselves sometimes. I really bet you are one of the first if not first women who has put him in his place.
Hell yes! Nice work!
Yay you! Good response! And good on you, for not putting up with that BS. What a nut! You should asked to see the cracker jack box his degree came from.
Good luck with your new OB!
