Pre-Conception Checkup?

A friend of mine recently told her doctor they were going to start trying to get pregnant and he scheduled her for a pre-conception checkup.  I told my doctor the same thing and she just told me to start taking folic acid.  Does everyone go for this pre-conception checkup?  I am thinking about changing Gyno's because of this.  I want a doctor who would be attentive to my needs.  Does anyone have a good Gyno in the south west suburb area they would recommend?

    I went to the OBGYN a month or two ago for this. She gave me a tetanus shot because I have no idea when I last had one. She also checked if I still had traces of the MMR vaccine. She also check for toxoplasmosis because I have cats. Other than that, she said to start taking PN vitamis for the folic & make sure it has DHA.

    I had to have one before first pregnancy. They asked me and DH a bunch of questions to see if there is anything that would us at risk for anything (genetic disorders, etc). I personally would want to change my OB/Gyn too if that was the reaction I got.
