Breech Position

I know LO is moving, flipping and rotating a lot lately, but it seems every u/s I've had since finding out the gender, his rump is always parked on my bladder. I saw my OB on Monday (go back every two weeks now) and I asked him about this. He said it's still a tad too early to be concerned since there's still room for him to move, but as I get closer to my due date, he'll have to monitor LO's position more closely.

If he is still rump first at the next couple of appointments, I am going to have to try some alternatives to get him to move (like spinningbabies.com or other methods I have read about). I don't want to have to have an external version done (where the OB manually manipulates your tummy to turn LO at roughly 36 or 37 weeks). I want to do what I can to prevent a c-section at that point, UNLESS, (when labor comes) baby is in distress, no dialation, or his head is too big (like what happened to my cousin in August).

If your LO is breech, partially breech or in a transverse lie, what has your OB told you about your LO's position. Depending on how far along you are, is your OB concerned at this point?

Re: Breech Position

  • I'm fairly sure LO is still breech. She was for all the u/s, the last being at almost 26 weeks. My OB hasn't mentioned anything about her position. I have a growth u/s at 34 weeks so I guess if she's still beech, they'll say something.

  • At our Lamaze class last, the nurse told us that no one should worry at this point whether or not your baby is breech because they still have room to move.  She said that most doctors do not become concerned with baby's position until 37 weeks.
  • I'm 29 weeks and my baby is still breech, but my doctor isn't concerned yet. Doesn't mean I'm not worried though, because I really really don't want to have a c-section...
  • My LO doesn't like being head-down.  He's been breech for the last 6+ weeks, and shows no signs of wanting to flip over.  He's not even frank breech - his rump isn't on my bladder, his little feet are!  My doc isn't concerned yet, and probably won't be until I hit 34ish weeks.  However... since the plan is that I will be induced early for medical issues anyway, if he doesn't turn, we're not planning to do much to try to force it.  I'd rather schedule a c-section than go through the version (which might not work), a scheduled induction (when my cervix may not be at all favorable), and then possibly end up in a c-section anyway, and my OB is on board with my line of thinking.

  • My OB told me it isn't a concern until 38 weeks, but yesterday okayed me to start trying pelvic tilts and the cat pose to try and get her to shift. My OB did an u/s yesterday to see if she is still breech (since she was at 29 weeks) and she still was but had made some progress. I'm pretty sure my OB said to start trying to moves to shift her because I've been having contractions, have a soft cervix and baby is sitting VERY low and she is concerned I may go into labor much earlier than 38 weeks. I want to avoid a c-section too so for me it's worth it to try and get her to move just in case I have this baby in the next few weeks.

Regardless of yesterdays appt., I had planned to start some of the spinning baby methods around 33/34 weeks to get her to try and shift knowing she may flip back, just for piece of mind.

  • DS was breech until 36 weeks, so you still have lots of time for your LO to turn. When I researched it, multiple sources said some babies actually turn during labor, go figure.

  • They still turn non stop...my LO was head down since 20 weeks and at every ultrasound after and I've had a lot.  Then last week she decides to be feet first in the morning....I ended up in L&D that same evening and she had flipped again and was back to head down.
  • My LO isn't breech, but is in the OP position.  My MW said it wasn't a concern yet, but I should start taking action now.

If I was you, I would find a chiropractor in the area that does the Webster technique.  I've heard amazing things and it's non-invasive.

  • Cooper is transverse and has been since about 16 weeks. My doctor said at 28 weeks he still has time to move. I don't he is to worried since I have a planned c-section. He would just need to make a differant cut vs if baby was head down.
  • Hazel was breech last week. My OB didn't seem concerned, and says as long as she flips by 36 weeks we're okay. I still plan to ask him next week to check and see if she's flipped yet. :P
