TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Family Building Act (FYI)

It started in 2009, but is still current and since there are so many new people, so without further ado......

I don't normally do this, but occasionally a piece of legislation occurs that "catches my eye."  The one that has caught my eye is the Family Building Act of 2009/2010.  I feel that is a very important piece of legislation, so I would like to take this time and encourage you to write your Senator and Representative and encourage them to support for these bills.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/26/AR2009062602805.html

"The Family Building Act of 2009 (H.R. 697, S. 1258) "takes an important first step toward improving the way insurers view infertility," but it is "not a silver bullet for improving the way [in vitro fertilization] treatments are conducted and covered," John Zhang, founder and director of the New Hope Fertility Center in New York City, writes in an opinion piece in The Hill. The bill, introduced by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) in the House and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in the Senate, would require health insurance companies that cover obstetrical services to cover non-experimental treatment of infertility, including IVF. "

  • Good work Laura!  I wrote my representatives.

This reminded me of something my VA doctor told me.  She said that she is sick and tired of meds being covered for men and not for women.  For example the Lovenox.  The VA will pay for a man that needs it because of blood clots, but not for a woman that needs it because she needs to keep her un-born child alive.  There is a huge healthcare debate/battle going on that is much larger than it appears at first glance. I hope people in DC that are much smarter than I get it all sorted out soon...

  • Do you know when this might be up for vote?  I just want to see if I need to wait and send it to the newly elected people or go ahead and sent it to the current ones.
