Black blood?

I have been spotting off and on brown blood for a few days and this afternoon I noticed it was black. It is borderline flow at this point but thick and dark black. Anyone ever have something similair happen?

I've had that happen before at the very beginning of af....like it was really really dark red/black. I always just figured it was kinda like clotting?

ETA: If it continues though I would def call your md and ask about it

yea. is it red black? Or brown with black clots? I get a lot of red/black blood. I almost never get red really only brown or reddish black clots.

When my flow has been super heavy in the past, I've had very dark red almost black but not definitely black.

I would be calling the doctor. I hope it's nothing serious, lopes.

I'm experiencing this too! see my post below: I should know.... I swear mine almost looks black in the panty liner, but when I wipe it's dark brown. I'm going on day 4 of this. I hope it goes away for both of us ASAP! I don't know what to do about it, so I'll be lurking for input from others too.

I have never had black blood. But if it continues, or you really get worried, it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor!

Mine is DEFINITELY black, its been dark brown off and on very light spotting, and now it is black and kind of the consistency of creamy CM.

I've had it before (often I think), but it's always mixed with really dark red or brown- never solidly black. Today & yesterday (and all the crazy spotting I had this past cycle) has been basically EWCM that's full of dark red/black/dark brown gunk.

If yours is just solidly black, I'd call the doc.

Is it just black in the panty liner or black when you wipe? I get this every single AF (at the end though)....it looks black on the liner but when I wipe it's just really dark brown. I've never worried about it but if it's not normal for you then I might call the dr. just to make sure.

Oh no! Ok, I'm not experiencing it quite like that. I would call the Dr. just to be sure it's normal. I hope it's nothing to worry about.

Some cycles I get gummy dark brownish discharge up to 3 days before true red flow. September that happened to me. This past AF nothing happened like that, AF just showed up all at once. Stay calm. If you aren't expecting AF in the next couple days look into it. I bet you they will say everything is fine, but we are not M.D.s (well at least I'm not!) so I would never speak for your OB.

Sometimes clotting looks black, but I've never had what you're describing. You may want to call your doctor, just to be sure it's normal.

Hi! I'm not sure what your full situation is...but I have read that black blood is just the old blood from your period coming out later. I came upon it when I googled something similar. Good luck!

Wasn't your last cycle in Jan and didn't you have failed provera attempts? I would call the dr to discuss though it prob. is just very old blood. I get black clots if it has been a long cycle.

They closed at 4 and I don't feel like this is an emergency situation because I don't have any more painful than normal cramps so I will call tomorrow morning and update! Thanks everyone! It was just so odd that it was black black I couldnt believe it!

Wow, I never knew that black blood was anything to worry about. I've had black spotting a lot. Normally it's just a sign that AF is about to start. I often have black spotting a day or two before my period starts. FWIW, the cycle I got pregnant with DS, I had very heavy black spotting the day before I got my BFP.

'm in nursing school and they teach us that dark colored or black blood = old blood. Nothing to worry about, but you can ask your OB next time you're in if you're worried about it.

The only time I've had this was after a freezing procedure to remove pre-cancerous cells from my cervix. It freaking bled forever and black stuff was common in that period of time. That and they forgot to tell me they crammed some dissolving gauze up there and the first couple days (before the bleeding) I thought my insides were falling out. I def. called the doc freaking out then.

That's all I've got though! I'd call the doc personally!

Yeah and thats half the reason why I'm freaking out like my uterus is deteriorating and falling out or something, and half the reason why I think its nothing because its just insanely old blood.

I know that black blood from the rectum means "old blood" (aka an upper GI bleed) that has been traveling through the GI tract to come out, and black vomit means old bleeding from the stomach, so probably black blood from the vag means old blood too. It oxidizes and changes colors. However, if you've got a long history of "weirdness" (meant in all the nicest of ways) then a call to the OB might be a good idea.
