Such a thing as too much kicking?

I've read other posts about not feeling enough movement and being worried - however nobody has said anything about too much being a concern. SO this is prob a REALLY stupid question - is it ever a bad sign if there is a lot?

I swear my LO is constantly break-dancing. Is something I'm doing contributing to this - like too much caffeine (one cup of coffee?), or sugar, or maybe my baby has ADD Wink or is epileptic (ok seriously about that one - can you know that in the womb?)

Re: Such a thing as too much kicking?

  • I'm feeling the same way lately. I feel him/her 24/7 and the kicks are really HARD sometimes. I wake up at night thinking "maybe he/she is in distress" but I think in this case, more movement is just a sign that your baby is really active...

  • I brought this up with my dr today. She kind of laughed and said he was a 'busy one'. Then she said if I stop feeling him move that I should call or go to the hospital. She didn't seem concerned at all about the the extra movement.

  • Thanks ladies! This makes me feel better.
  • Munchkin is CONSTANTLY moving except a couple of times a day where I guess he wears himself out and goes to sleep. Everytime they do the doppler at my appointments, you can hear him moving all over the place and the nurse always mentions that he is busy. But no one seems concerned so I just enjoy it.

One thing though: All moms I talk to who said their LO's were super active in the womb said they were really calm and mellow when they got older. So there is hope!

  • I have wondered the same thing. I feel LO all the time. (Except for that one time I didn't and I freaked!)

  • I totally have the same thing! Kickboxing going on in there. I asked the dr today at my appt and he said it is great. Last week it felt like the baby was shivering in there and I thought-seizures! But the dr said that babies cannot have seizures in the uterus. He did an ultrasound to make me feel better. Everything looked great and he is weighing in at 2 lbs 14 oz. And I don't have GD which makes me think he will be  a big one! Yikes!

YAY! I get something like this often, small but fast movements, and I was getting concerned. I'm really glad to know that.

This is good news too! My DH is Mr. Mellow and I'm super high strung; I was hoping LO will take after his daddy.

  • Someone actually posted about this yesterday so you are not alone!  I feel the same way and I asked my doctor (because I swear LO was moving so much and so quickly that I thought he was having a seizure).  My doc laughed and said she gets that question all the time and a lot of crazy movement is normal.

  • I sure hope not because my little girl is constantly on the move & I love every minute of it!
  • Ditto to the PP about soooooo much movement! I get muscle cramps because DS is pounding on my muscles all day long. But I can't help but absolutely love every bit of it. Smile

I also feel him get the 'shivers' and I asked my Dr. at my appointment yesterday about it. She said that it's normal and that his nervous system is still developing. Nothing to worry about there.
