Where did you go? My husband isn't so sure about spending so much money right before Christmas and a baby (he is a great DH just very money..."savvy" haha) but I would really LOVE to do something before we have a LO. If you don't mind me being too nosey around how much did it cost? I am hoping I can prove to him this is a good idea even for the cost and also that we don't have to spend a fortune. Thanks ladies!
Re: To those who have or plan on taking Babymoons...
DH and I went to DC, which isn't a typical babymoon place by any standard, but we both love that city, and it was a lot of fun for us to go to museums (well, I think that part was more fun for me) get pampered at a nice hotel and eat at lots of nice restaurants. Though, this late in my pregnancy I wouldn't suggest doing anything that requires a lot of walking around.
We got a great airfare deal and I think we spent a few grand, but that was mostly on the hotel and restaurants. Still, we kind of see it as our "last hurrah"- at least for a while; and I'll really cherish those memories of us strolling around without a care in the world (not to mention without a stroller, diaper bag, toys, snacks, etc. Vacationing is not going to be the same for a while, haha).
My personal experience isn't helpful, since my dh and I took a cruise to Alaska and landtour to Denali. We love to travel, and were very grateful to be able to sneak in one last big trip before the baby. I was very lucky that I had a relatively easy 1st trimester, so I was able to really enjoy the trip - my only symptom was nasua, which went away when I ate (which was easy to do on a cruise). But it was a huge risk - I could have spent the whole vacation throwing up and stuck in my room - so I would never suggest it for someone else (we planned the trip while we were ttc, and didn't know if we'd be successful or not).
More usefully, I would suggest looking into cheaper trips that are near you. Bermuda is an easy flight from SC, but a bit pricey. Fla or New Orleans would also be easy to get to, and the eastern coast of Mexico should also be affordable (their tourism industry has been killed by all the negative publicity due to drug issues, although major tourism sites still appear to be safe, and an all- inclusive should be very safe). Cruises are always an affordable way to travel, although you will need to check with the lines as to how far along they will allow you to travel. If you are visibly pregnant, you will need a note from you OB stating your due date, and that you have been medically cleared to travel. You should also obtain that note if you will be flying.
Just got back from San Francisco. I was 28 weeks and the flight was a little less than 2 hours. But learn from my mistake and choose a "sit on your butt" holiday. Not a walking around holiday. I was good until about 2 pm every day and then I was DONE!
Just find someplace close and rest up! I would rent a cabin or go on a cruise.
I have no helpful input regarding the rest of your question, but I wouldn't come here (NOLA) unless you're planning on waiting a little longer. It's still pretty hot and grossly humid and unless SC is like that still & you're used to it it is awful being outside. Though there is a lot to do here (that doesn't include drinking of course) so it's really neat to visit, I would honestly wait until mid-December once it cools off, and that's probably really pushing it (I'm not sure your EDD) with being allowed to fly and a lot of things to do around here you are constantly on your feet unless you're eating.
My Happy House
we are doing a quick weekend trip to San Francisco (just about 90 mins from us). we're splurging on a nice hotel, fancy restaurant and going to a 49ers game. and it will be december, so we'll get to see the christmas decor in union square and get some shopping done. I can't wait!

We went to Gatlinburg. Other than our hotel, which I don't think was too much, the most we spent was $200 on food and gas. And it was a 7 hour car ride.
You are more than welcome to come stay with me here in Philadelphia for as many days as you want! You'll be on your own though but hey free lodging (we have a guest bedroom plus a guest shower)!!
Ummm, it will be cold in PA, but heck..with that LO heater in you, you'll be fine. Philly is great for food, shows, musuems, Amish country, Hershey Chocolate Park, etc.
We drove 8 1/2 hours through the beautiful fall mountains to Asheville, NC and spent an extended weekend in a B&B next to the Biltmore. It was absolutely wonderful. Cost about $500 for 3 nights, food and entrance to the Biltmore.
Problem is that when we got home late that Monday evening (2am) one of my cats fell very sick and needed to be in the kitty ICU for a few days - $3000. Then my husband wrecked my car in an accident last week. He is fine, but the car will likely be totaled by the insurance company and the check they will give us will not even make a dent in getting a car in as good as condition as we had.
So all in all, next time, I know to save the money - it was a wonderful weekend, but given all the upcoming expenses with a baby, we shouldn't have taken the risk.
We went to Mexico at the end of May-it was my graduation present and I didn't expect to be PG there when we booked it months earlier, lol. We had previously been TTC but at that time I thought we'd still be on a TTC break. I really was tired and not as well as I would be normally on vacation. It was still nice but it was crazy hot at the time so the timing wasn't perfect.
My advice would be to stay fairly close and do something where you can take it easy-because even though it's a nice idea in theory, I've found any travel we've done to be really tiring-even just a short plane ride at 18 weeks left me saying NO WAY to traveling at Thanksgiving like we'd originally planned.
I will say in regards to a PP-I think you are too far along for a cruise, because they usually have a cut off date of 20 something weeks because they don't have the proper medical team onboard to handle complications in a 3rd trimester/if a guest went into labor.
