Babies: 0 - 3 Months

BFers - If you changed your diet..

due to a baby who spit up, what did you eliminate? I know a lot of doctor's say no dairy..but is there anything else I should stay away from?

Pedi said to feed him 4oz every 3-4 hours and see if that helps but so far he's still spitting a lot. Since that's not working I'd like to work on my diet because I might be eating something he doesn't like.

Thanks!

Re: BFers - If you changed your diet..

  • I'm changing my diet now too.  Mine is because DD has had blood in her stool.  Doc & GI spec we took her to says it's due to a food sensitivity or allergy from what I'm eating.  I have cut out all milk/dairy, soy, peanuts, and now, as of Friday - wheat.  These seem to top the list of sensitivities.  I AM STARVING!!!! I am a carb junkie.

I am EBF and determined to continue.

Also, check out the Dr. Sears website:

  • I changed my diet because DS had blood in his stool- not because he spit up.  We had to eliminate dairy and soy because he has allergies to them and then I eliminated caffeine because that made him fussy.

I would start with writing down everything you eat in a day and use that.  If he spits up a ton, have a look at what you ate and try eliminating things one by one.

  • I changed my diet due to gas issues. I cut way down on dairy (it's tough to eliminate 100%). I also cut out all the "gassy foods."?

I really cut my diet way back and every week experiment adding a new food. ?

  • I eliminated dairy because DD had really painful gas, and it helped. I also cut coffee, peanuts and acidic foods like OJ and pineapple when she developed reflux. I've added decaf coffee back in.
