I have just "passed" three at-home preganancy tests, and I am a bundle of nerves. I am going to be a first-time mom, and I couldn't be happier. However, I am significantly overweight, and I am scared that this might be a problem. I am planning to go see a doctor ASAP and have my thyroid checked. I was wondering if anyone has been pregnant and had thyroid issues. Is it possible to take medications for that without harming the baby? Also, I would love advice/support from other overweight and obese moms and moms-to-be. I am really stressed.
Re: Weight Issue
My sister was pregnant while on thyroid medication. I believe she had monthly blood tests, also, to see if her medication needed to be modifed during pregnancy.
Congrats!
I am overweight and pregnant but I don't have thyroid issues..
My doctor had no issue with my weight other than I won't gain as much weight as someone who is of "healthy" weight..

I'm overweight and have had two successful pregnancies... like the other posters wrote - you'll just have to keep your weight gain to a minimum. I gained 15-18 lbs w/ both of mine.
I recommend walking or getting some kind of exercise as much as you can. I try to do 30 mins a day on the treadmill or elliptical - keep the blood flowing! It helps your recovery too!
Good Luck!!!!!
