1st Trimester

Class D Meds

I have a prescription for Lorazepam (Ativan) that I take during exams or when I fly or other situations that give me acute anxiety. I didn't realize it was dangerous to take when pregnant, or that I was even pregnant when I took some for a flight. I was probably 2-4 weeks at the time, but I'm not sure because my periods are not regular.

Does anyone know more about this? It is likely that I have already harmed the baby by taking this medicine?

I have a call into my doctor but haven't heard back yet.

  • I took it too while on a flight, 2 pills each way actually. I didn't know I was pg. Nothing you can do, just don't keep taking them.

If you call the manufacturer they can tell you a bit more. They have pharmacists on staff to answer questions about products. I called regarding a drug I took just prior to conception that I was using to prevent seizures brought on by a benign brain tumour. It was very reassuring and when I spoke to the doctor and had it reconfirmed I felt hugely relieved.

  • At 2-4 weeks it's unlikely in the extreme that any of the medication even reached your baby. You're fine.

  • Thanks everyone. The info I found when checking to see if the med was safe scared me, but the more I look into it the less worried I am about the small amount I took.

  • I did a quick google search out of boredom and it looks like there aren't any congenital defects associated with it, just respiratory issues in the fetus if you take it later in pregnancy. I think you're fine.
